New Signature Limit
As asked by Reese in another thread, there are indeed new signature rules.

4 Lines, 1000 characters (including HTML) in length, 500 characters with no formatting. Size restriction is font size 3.

I have thought my own sig was a little long and annoying, good rule.

I am thinking along the lines of random signature deletion. Those that don't comply eventually will have theirs modified by the staff. Could be a day, could be a month. Who knows?

Soooo.... I randomly stumbled across this thread. Glad I did, as I saw no other announcement of changes... However, major flaw here... I can't get the damn filter to accept anything new I put in my signature!

Ok... so I set my Chrome browser to be at the default zoom level (because text reformats itself based on zoom settings), and I only have 4 lines of text, including a blank line for space. I copied the original signature into Word; with HTML formatting I'm at 568 characters, and without formatting Word says I'm at 470. NOW, when I go to edit this signature, I can delete said blank line (making it 3 lines of text) and it refuses saying that I went over 4 lines.

If I delete the whole section about my Z that leaves me with 1.5 lines of text on the NX, which it accepts. I have about a line's worth of text for the Z, so naturally it should fit. NO, even if I put it inline with the NX stuff (not dropping a line), it still refuses.

If this issue comes down to the way formatting auto-wraps words when zoomed in differently, or users running a much larger resolution, what are you going to do about it to make it fair/correct for all users?

Thoughts mods?

Personally, I never saw any issue with anybody's signature on here. There have been few, if any, I've thought seemed gaudy or overdone compared to other places. Why the sudden change? Hopefully I'm not just having a brain fart and am missing something simple. FWIW, I'm running at 1080p.

PS: Please don't go changing my sig automatically, I'd like to figure out the issue and do the restructuring myself.

There may be some issues with the automatic signature checking settings to work out on our end. I assure you, it is not supposed to be as difficult as you're finding it to be. You're right, in that an official announcement is likely in order for this news.

For reference, I do not know of anyone yet who's had their signature actually changed by a moderator under this new rule, nor do I personally plan on deleting signature text myself. I understand how maddening that could be.

And a bit of history behind this... While this may seem like a recent rule change, there has been relatively strict rules in effect for signatures since the beginning of the forum. The Terms of Service we all agreed to when we joined has them in it, and this recent change is an attempt to clarify and easier enforce what has been in place since the forum's inception. There was a thread on the topic started back at the beginning of 2010 but it was locked soon after. Here is maybe the most important post form that thread: http://www.sr20-forum.com/347374-post109.html

I wouldn't mind re-opening that thread for more discussion, but I would wait to see if that is largely agreeable to the rest of the staff before opening it back up.

Thanks for clearing that up Ben. As soon as the kinks are worked out I will give mine another overview. I've always tried to keep mine fairly tasteful

Also, you don't need to dig up history on the subject - I'll take your word for it.
