New Members Area
I think by now, we should have a New Members area

I'm talking with folks and getting them turned to this site. We should have a New Members area so they have a place to introduce themselves.

Go inside a section, like General or Off Topic, then in the left corner above all posts there will be a New Thread button.

Bump! Starting to see more and more spammers. Would be nice to have a New Members area and a waiting period before posting in general sections of the forum...

religious spammers. lol probably guys from the old forum that disliked the new forum.

For the new members, you mean like a trial member/restricted member like the honduh-tech forum?

Yeah, like what we have at the other forum. Something to help limit the influx of spam.

I'd prefer to keep some sort of reign on the Newbies and keep our forum a bit selective about admitting just any web-hopping dill-weed that happens to find our site.

I say we make it a much longer waiting period to post outside of New Members. Like 7-10 days or so. Anyone serious about joining this forum will wait that long. Those that are impatient, or overzealous, can just suck eggs and go somewhere else. Those type of folks that are miffed will probably be the ones that are posting helter-skelter with inane questions.

Is there a way to have "required reading" ie threads they have to at least "click" before they can be allowed to leave New Members? Like a How to Search Thread? I'll be happy to make one, I volunteer for the service. In fact, I think I should do this anyways and I shall. Gotta do a serious update on The Suspension Thread, and then a "How to Search Thread" will be my next project for the community. Keep in mind I have no mechanical expertise whatsoever, so those types of Tech Articles or Stickies are beyond my grasp, but I know how to search real damn well.

How about a "forced visit" of The Technical Threads. If they don't at least "click" on the threads, the stickies, they don't get out of New Members.

Established folks that are transferring over from the other forum, can send a PM to a Moderator for special consideration and exemption. Bearjing just joined, were these rules in effect, she could send a PM and get instant access.

You want to be a part of the best forum for the SR20 on the internet? You wait, just like everyone else.

You want to know which nightclubs are the most popular? The ones that are the hardest to get into.

Is this type of Forum scrutiny or checking even possible?

To play Devils Advocate....

Let the Newbies come in hordes, with stupid as hell, redundant, unreasearched questions and a crappy attitude....and I'll have a ton of fun BBQ'ing their asses.
