Vadim -- How does it make sense? Perfect sense?! That's even worse.

It makes NO sense.

Let's think about this a bit. Who is this favoring? A scammer will obviously have a fake name with a fake location. This doesn't help the buyer. If anything, it makes scams EASIER because since the buyer puts in 'John Doe' 'Tampa,FL' into Google and finds out that he actually exists and maybe sponsors helping Kids with Cancer on his spare time, than that person will trust the scammer MORE than less. That's one of many reasons why real-name policy doesn't help our security policy here. It makes scams EASIER which goes against the entire reason why we are implementing these rules. This doesn't help honest sellers at all. This will not protect buyers/sellers against scams.

Also, most stuff you can find out about someone else via the intertubes is useless and/or inaccurate and/or not even helpful to whether or not you should buy something from them. So why include it at all? Again, a scammer will use a fake name and a fake location that matches up to some fictional made up person(who actually exists but isn't the scammer) which makes scams EASIER. A non-scammer will still include his/her real-name but google searches reveal absolutely nothing to the buyer that helps them make a better decision whether they should buy something from them.

This policy makes perfectly no sense.

Oh gomba, I still don't want to disclose my real name to the whole world either. But the idea behind having the name makes perfect sense (so that you can try to research them, where you will have luck or not is not up to question).

Crim what do you think about removing the full name deal?

I think Ben became interested in AUTOfellatio precisely because it has the word 'AUTO' in it lol.

vqman, I think you may have proven my point? It's not hard to find information about (some) people with their real name on the Internet. And it can be very credible if you're halfway decent at searching. I'm maybe not the best example though, as everything I've ever done online I try to make as public as possible. I make all my social network stuff as public as possible, I use the username "BenFenner" just about everywhere, etc.

When you go to pay someone using paypal and you enter their e-mail address it tells you their full name (before you pay them). It's going to be extremely easy to catch someone trying to use "John Doe" from CT when their paypal says it is "Scam Scammer".
I just tested it with Vadim.
That right there is worth its weight in gold IMO.

By the way, I found the answer to the pressing herpes question. They are not transmutable.
(Man, I have a lot of old info out there I need to update! Freakin' MySpace.)

so when you've agreed upon a purchase price, and you are sending money... you then get to find out there name. if they told you a different name prior... its too late, you've already made payment...

still seems uselesa to have your name on a for sale item...

maybe if you have less than 5 iTradee you have to put your name? i dunno, glad its all private now (the classifieds)

That edit might have happened after you read the post.

I bet she was finding all this crap on this guy named Ben Fenner who does music. Apparently I have much too large of a web presence for him, so I've seen now he's going by "Ben Fen" online. I've taken his username for Wikipeida, MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, Photobucket, etc.

Lol. Must suck to be that guy.

Oh, if she wants to know how well she did I can point out where the info she found was wrong. Maybe in a PM or forum chat. We've gone way off topic.
