Exactly. Some people will find any way to bring you down for any reason at any time w/any info they can find. Let's not give them more ammo.

This is the main reason the real-name policy doesn't make sense, not including the fact it adds nothing to our actual security as buyers/sellers.

Then theres guys who will do this....
http://www.sr20-forum.com/audio-electronics/40892-amp-wanted.html#post533280

I had a rant there, but this shit is getting old. This guy got his FS thread locked(which was his only post here with NO pics, etc) .
The only other posts he has are to "count down" his minimum post requirements.
What a douche. Just wanted to share this, maybe I am bored...yes.
But I am definately gonna expose any potential scammers before they get a chance to do it.
I have lost too much money here and am taking this PERSONAL now.I am sure there are many who agree.

You're not. No one is forcing you to sell items on this forum.

I understand the worries and desire to keep your real names private. I don't necessarily agree with the idea either. It is very easy to come up with any old name and not many people will be the wiser.

However, to me it adds security because I can research the seller before I try to buy. With a name, I can see if they live where they claim to live, and have any other web presence corroborating their "story". A fake name would likely produce bogus results which is very telling in itself.

I'm on the fence about the name thing...

You guys do realize there is no policy we can implement that will be fool proof? Well, we could disable the classifieds. I think the bottom line is, if you're worried about getting ripped off, buy from a reputable store new. If you can't afford to buy new, buy intelligently. Don't buy from someone with poor pictures. Don't buy from someone who has a low or useless post count. Don't send someone paypal using the gift option. I think these are all pretty basic things. If you don't take simple steps to protect yourself or research who you are buying from, you're being stupid.

We could add a requirement of submitting DNA before posting a forsale ad, and it wouldn't provide additional security to our users. I can understand why people would be pissed about getting ripped off. I can't understand why they blame the moderators however.

What the policy on threads posting to Craiglist or eBay links, even if it's not "their" item? I think it's useless when someone post a link to a CL ad. I say create a section within the classifieds for sr20 related web finds.

It's been mentioned to make the classified sections viewable by members only to help mitigate the issues with posting real names, e-mail addresses (not required by the way) and phone numbers (again, for those not understanding correctly they are not required).

Has this idea been tossed around by the mods? It sounds reasonable and productive at first blush.

I like the rules and I think they are completely fair. Stick to your guns mods, in a few months everyone will forget that this was even an issue.

Yep.Everyone will get used to it.
It does make it nice to have all the info laid out for you, rather than have to hunt through a giant run-on sentence for details.
