Yes and the only reason we had his name was because of a previous package he shipped.

Again, a name is nothing. It could be real/fake, it doesn't matter. We also had his address. Just a name doesn't tell you much. The inclusion of a self-entered 'real-name' adds nothing to our security policy and as I previously stated, may even work against.

In fact, had we had this guy's real-name added to his f/s thread it would have done absolutely NOTHING to help avoid his attempts at fraud. This is why this policy doesn't make sense. It's like asking to add the word 'blue jelly dongs' to every f/s thread. It doesn't make sense and adds nothing to our security here.

p.s. from this point forward my real-name will be...Blue Jelly Dongs or BJD for short.

Ya, I posted to this thread created by ashtonsser almost 6 months ago which had some very simple and smart ideas about how to put some better security on the F/S section without burdening sellers too much:

http://www.sr20-forum.com/436672-post29.html

I don't know how we got from that thread to where we are now. I guess I missed this 'off-topic' thread and never was able to comment on it until it was too late.

Bread comes in a thin plastic bag that can easily be penetrated with a needle without anyone noticing. The bread could be poisoned this way of course. Or the twisty tie could be removed, bread poisoned, and the twisty replaced, no one would ever know.

Why do bottles of things to be consumed require such greater levels of safety?

Because only bottles have ever been corrupted. Remember the Tylenol scare back in the 80's? It's reactionary thinking. We need to quit being reactionary..

There was that one guy with the VE head. We (as a forum) got lucky and knew his name. He's the one who claimed he couldn't find the time to package and ship the VE head.. yeah, that guy.. we happened to know his name... and it led the forum to his "capture" and return of funds.

so now we need to require EVERYONE to put their name on their for sale ad?

we're doing like George Dubya Bush did with the Patriot Act, we are selling a false sense of security at the expense of the privacy of the good people... all because of reactionary, the sky is falling, nonsensical garbage.

I don't mind my name being out here, but it should be something that's private on a PUBLIC forum..

this is what i see as well. i mean really? if you dont make your for sale thread with post easy to read, have some sense of organization, and put together correctly, i dont bother dealing with you. thats my opinion. just by having a 'for sale template' isnt going to help. the ones with experience selling things will know what to do.

well i'm fine with the template..

i just don't think we should be forced to reveal our real first and last names on a public forum.

how about making the section private to only members?

i have no problem with it either. i just dont like posting my real name out there. im young, and everyone knows that potential employers, scholarships and everything google the person they are looking at.

i would make the classifieds a section that you can only see if you are a member like off topic.

this is why you might say we need to have pics of parts..

but

without a date of the pic, how do you know if they are really the sellers pics taken in the last 48 hours?
