Agreed, I supremely hate it when people do this.

Honestly, if I sold something, I generally remove the contents of the post because it's my business and the buyers business what I sold and what I sold it for.

BTW.. Vadim...Edit your post.

Update the post since you guys can't read

Closing thread is perfectly fine though (Reporting your post and asking the mods to close it).

If it's so private sell via PM's then. The selling prices determine the street value of items. And since we are not allowed to tell the people their selling price is too high, they have no way of knowing what to set the price at.

Another thing is, it provides history of what was advertised and what the buyer actually received. Remove the original post and bam the seller doesn't know if they got scammed or not.

For an honest seller, removing the info is annoying but not malicious. In the end, it's not a huge deal (except it sets precedent and ruins research attempts as Vadim point out).

For a scammer, the ability to remove or edit the original post after the sale is a powerful tool we've all been aware of for a very long time.

so, If I make a thread saying "SR20VE head" as the title and in the thread I said it's complete. After it sold and I delete all the info from my thread, then when the person received the head with the cams, caps and solenoid is missing.

what happens then? I can say I never said complete head.

note: I wouldn't do it to anyone, I'm just using this as an example.

And it's for that very reason that Crim has expressed a desire to eliminate the ability to edit in the classified sections as far back as the beginning of this forum. I have always agreed with that, but obviously that's extremely problematic for everyone (99% of us are used to editing/tweaking For Sale threads and threads in general to make them better, clearer, and more precise after the initial post).

For example I think I edited this post over six times after creating it to make it as good as it could be.

Even if you edit it/delete it, it can be restored. It never really gets erased off the face of the earth. Backups are a wonderful thing

But, I digress. A seller/buyer/trader should at least be able to close their own thread. If they edit it and then close it, and something goes awry, moderators can re-open it easily, and the administrators can restore the deleted contents.

Are you sure edits within the post are also revertible/viewable?
If that's the case, that would change my stance on the subject and I think others' as well.

Right. That I get... but I see it this way. I can stop a lot of unwanted PM's from people after the item I'm selling is sold by not just editing the thread and putting "SOLD" in the title and 1st post but by just deleting the thread all together.

I know for one after I have sold an item and it clearly states that it has been sold, and have had many people PM asking if for one, it was really sold or if I have another or more. To me that's pretty annoying. Just for the sake that people don't get it.

But like I said... it's an idea. Maybe something that can be offered to the people that have been on here since the opening that usually sell many products. Like maybe a mini "mod" tool. I don't even know if that is offered on here as it is anyways.
