General rule with customers is, they only scream when they have an issue. Hence when I'm buying a product and look at reviews, for every negative review I assume there are 5 positive .

True. But if you have a positive transaction, people will leave positive feedback + give a "good seller, free bump" bump. I only deal with certain ppl selling things here tho..

You don't have to enforce anything. If a member buys an item and they don't get feedback then they don't get feedback. I typically will hound people for feedback if they don't give any and that works 99% of the time. Thankfully I haven't had to do it much on this forum or as of late.
If you're trying to get your rating up to sell, you can send a PM or two to the sellers to make sure your good purchase doesn't go unnoticed.

If you do buy a couple things and get no ratings, you'll have to buy a few more. I don't think it's that big of a deal since the likelihood is so small.
How hard can it be to purchase one more $5 bolt or $3 sticker?
I know it's dangerously close to basically forcing a fee to sell, but it's way better than that because it shows how a member handles transactions and they can be very small transactions so hopefully not debilitating to most.

I'm pretty sure a lot less of this would happen if the prudent buyer/seller would hound the lazy buyer/seller with a couple PMs. It has worked wonders for me in the past. The new person trying to get enough ratings to sell has even more reason to be persistent with the PMs.
I'm not sure there's a need to fault anyone, even if no rating is ever given.

What if we start forcing them to buy 1-3 items before they can sell anything. Once they have an iTrader rating of +1 or +2 or +3 then they can start listing things for sale.

They can also get positive feedback by selling the item locally to a forum member, as long as there is a thread and both leave iTrader feedback.

Great Idea,IMO

I think if you are the newb, you will have to make sure to hound the seller if they dont do the i-trader.
Also,if the newb posts in the F/S thread also that he has bought/paid/received something ,it wold help egg the seller on to leave the feedback.
Mods can politely ask about the trader rating as well, and future sellers/buyers can refer back at a later date if necessary.
What do you guys think about that?

But what stops the newbie from having lets say friends or opening another account and then adding false feedback?

Nothing. The newbs need to buy from someone that is a known member. That member would have had to got through the process already anyway to be a seller.
I guess we would have to "grandfather in" the guys like myself who already have good feedback.
For example, when I set up my ebay account to start selling,I bought a few Items for under 10 bucks and started my feedback by asking the sellers to remember to leave feedback.I explained that I am trying to get my feedback started, and raelly had no issues.
The newbs could do that.Allthey have to do is find some cheap things to buy from a reputable seller with say trader rating of,lets say feedback of 5 or more.
-So buy 3 different times from a seller with over 5 rating.
No problem

Theres always gonna be a way around everything,we just need to improve our current system.

Nothing, except they would have to have 3 different friends will to do that all with feedback above 3 themselves (to sell).
(Feedback from the same user only ever counts once towards the score.)

It wouldn't stop the most determined, but I bet it would help quite a bit.

For some reason that never occured to me. I have more transactions with different members than my count shows. All of whom got positive feedback from me.

I like the other ideas being kicked around. Good stuff.

Although often involved (can't help myself - fish gotta swim) I have noticed that I am not the only one sick of the scammers and ensueing Buying/Selling Drama.

So I am happy to see pro-active and preventative measures being considered.

In the absence of any answers from the mods on whether or not all of the rules of the classified section are going to be enforced and with the general attitude of the forum being that many sellers are hard to trust (which I personally disagree with) I'm going to start reporting "for sale" posts as I see them that don't meet the criteria and/or posting which requirements they aren't satisfying. Which ever seems most appropriate.

what's the big deal about bumping an item more than twice? I had a bullet style resonator that I was trying to sell, I would bump it from time to time and it finally sold at or very near my original asking price. I think bumping twice in a week might be a bit much, but not every item is highly sought after with dozens of buyers lined up waiting for on to show up on the classifieds...

Progress rear sway bars for the B13 usually don't require a bump to sell
Hypercoil springs, usually don't require a bump to sell

ASP header, you wouldnt think it needs a bump, but there is one for sale now that has needed to be bumped to remind people it's for sale who may have wanted it but didn't have funds when it first went up for sale...

I guess in theory if posts aren't getting pummeled to the bottom of the list because no one is bumping unnecessarily then you won't need to bump much of anything anyway because it won't get lost in a sea of other threads being bumped.

Personally I think that logic is a bit outdated and I agree the bump limitation is not a rule I agree with. See my previous posts in this thread on the topic.
