You have a valid point to be considered on the vote thing. I disagree with it, but only because I am so used to Privately Owned forums being run by an Administrator(s) that owns the forum and makes the final decision. Then there is also the Congress of Super Mods that I *think* comes to some consensus on Rules, with and/or upon final veto or approval by the Admins (?).

Further, if you personally owned a business, ran it, collected the money, kept the lights on, staffed the business, kept up with the latest technology and all that stuff for servers and computer gobble-de-gook, equipment, yada-yada, would you allow your employees or customers to make the final decision on anything? Suggestions? Absolutely, if you are a smart business owner you'll definitely listen to both your employees and customers. But to allow them, Staff or customers, to outvote you by majority decision?

Please elaborate further on your suggestion.

Should only folks that are Forum Contributor be allowed to vote on Rules? Those would be the folks "paying to keep the lights on" since we have so little advertising nonsense. Just that little bit of easy-to-ignore clutter up at the header thing.

Should we vote on whether we get to vote on Rules?

That's a great point Shawn but myself looking from an administrative / business standpoint this is how I see it.

You have a business ( forum ) with investors ( community ) overlooked by staff ( moderators ). Staff start to change things without the investors voting on it and slowly investors start to leave, resulting in the business having lost a good amount of key investors witch the business cannot operate efficiently without so they have to close the doors witch results in the staff being unemployed. The key investors move on to new endeavors for example Moto iq, and basically what we did with the original forum. Witch only leads to more Seperation of an already tiny family of people with the love for a certain platform.

Again I could be way off but that's how I see that issue.

Why should say 6 people ( just rough example ) should vote and set a rule in place that say 100 community members have to follow I believe there should be a thread started for rule changes and the community should vote on what they want. #2 issue I see so far two moderators complaining about workload of normal responsibilities of a moderator but they have time to come up and implement a like button when it's just as easy to post thank you or nice post after it like we have been doing since original forum.

Let me address #2 first:

I am not just a user. I'm a moderator, a super moderator, and an Administrator. The workload of implementation of the like button was MINE, as was the implementation of the new classifieds templates, the enhanced notifications menu, as well as fixing a plethora of other issues.

Now for #1 (that you didn't accurately identify as issue #1, so I'm going to assume you're talking about vote systems).

Rules were born of rules from the previous forum. Rules were updated/added due to issues with previous members of the forum. There is a SERVER NEWS section (which you're in), in which you can convey your thoughts on current rules, future rules, etc.

Never once have we stated that it would be a top-down force-fed rulebook.

I'll say it again, we welcome any and all input and constructive criticism. We talk about the issues, and if the majority of the members AND staff agree, changes are implemented. Ask Benfenner. He kept bugging the shit out of myself and a few other staff members (before he ever became a moderator) about rule changes, and we got around to fixing some issues.

For instance, the political and religious threads in O/T are no longer met with hammer drops. Apparently folks around here are SO quick to bitch about shit, than to APPROACH us and TALK about things that need to be addressed.

I'm pretty much done discussing it until folks can talk about issues peaceably, and without throwing each-other under the buss.

Ya'll need to hang up and drive.

THE VIN REQUIREMENT WAS REMOVED THIS MORNING. THAT ISSUE IS RESOLVED.

So let's stop fucking talking about it and move on to the next issue(s) we have.

OK. I see your point. Understood.

However....

Even a business with investors (community), has a CEO or Managing Partner (like my farm for instance, I'm the Sole Managing Partner), that takes all the input from investors (community) and the Staff (Moderators) and then makes the final decision.

My farm is a Limited Liability Corporation, and I have four (4) separate but equal partners. Until it comes time to make the final decision. Then that decision and responsibility is on my shoulders, to prosper or sink with it. The good news is that I am ultimately in charge. The bad news is that I am ultimately in charge.

I flat-out do not know the very best or ideal way to run a community-base, privately owned, forum for the good of all. Taking into consideration all the myriad variables, permutations, opinions, facts and possibilities that exist.

I will say that it is good to hear articulated exactly, precisely what it is that you and Chapnutz (MarkSR20, etc...) are pissed/upset about, want fixed and/or changed. Even if I disagree, at least I know what you think and why.

I think (hope) we all can agree that splitting the community further is the wrong direction to take.

Eventually we'd all have our own SR20 forum fiefdoms, where each forum had it's own staff, everybody would be a Super Mod some-fucking-where, and we'd all have to go to a couple hundred SR20 forums per day to check Classifieds, get advice and help, and bullshit in general.

Thank you Shawn to taking a little time to see where I am coming from. Also to be honest I love the forum and would never ask to be a moderator nor do I strive towards being one , if one day I was approached and asked to be one and I felt I could benifit the community I would agree and try my best to help the community be heard because . If I felt I couldn't benifit the communit I would graciously decline the offer. Idk I guess I just feel that everybody here brings somthing differant to the table and we are able able to make awesome decisions just some maybee less benifitial to running this community and with that is where I base my ideas of my say should my vote on somthing weigh in or count more than yours and why maybe yours more than cliffs or cliffs more than marks etc etc. I feel that the community should vote on the rules without having to be sort of watched over by the moderators. And once the rules are in effect the should be enforced 100% by the moderators.

However my friend, your statement above smacks of a threat, or a promise as I occasionally like to call it. It is divisive and counter-productive unless facing an enemy. I would hope that we, collectively, are not enemies on this forum.

Do we, as a community, really need to split off and make yet another forum over this situation? Does that serve anybodies best interests?

I feel the same way about you Shawn, except I'd have to kick balls and punch throats to get the job done!! But I'd do the same for you brother

I dont threat of give promises. I normally Just "Do the job" and start the movements if at all necessary. We promote positive environments to be in, this place is an OPTION, not a mandatory assignment for everyones daily routine. I enjoy this place and I dont want to go anywhere, I want to read and post my opinion or information that I have gathered from my own experiences and if I have parts/vehicles for sale I'd like to sell/trade/buy from here. If I sounded as thought I was threatening or promising im sorry, but it may have came off that way because this moderator is coming off as a threat to losing very valuable people to this community because of overprotective syndrome aka follow the rules to a T or I will banhammer the crap out of you! Theres only room for one Cliff in this town. LOL

My point about my quoted statement your answering is that: We as a community went through this before. We had to change forums before because of this type of treatment and also being sold off.

I really like this forum and its members. The cars are secondary but its the common interest that brought us all together in the first place.

What most people arent understanding (mods and people supporting this bs) is that the way it has been ran before this past month or 2 is fantastic! No complaints from anyone. Why all the sudden complaints? The only real answers im hearing is from benfenner.. And to sum up his argument it sounds like once everyone sees that he's a rules stiff and gets used to it that everything will be fine. Its just that NOW is the MOLDING PROCESS, we need to mold all the members into these strict guidelines. I dont see any good coming from this.

I really enjoy seeing the very in depth Shawn B responses and I normally 95% of the time agree with your reactions. I just cant justify this molding process. Im sorry if I hurt anyones feelings because of my opinion but it seems that I am not alone.

With all this said: I would like to become a moderator replacement. If Benfenner would optionally step down from his robocop thrown and let me dust the office of any stiffness...I'd like to take the shot at it, if it is an option. If not I understand

Please voice your opinion and help mold the Dash!
........ Members: 7,094, Active Members: 1,594

5 users with public responses. (0.0031367% of Active Members)

Let's just say 25 users really have problems but wish to remain silent. (0.0156838% of Active Members)

I do not see the problem with recent things.

7094 members, active members 1594, actual members that are active 125, actual people who go to a convention 100+/- . Lets just say that 25 users remain silent (which is 20% of actual members that are active) that is a problem.

I dont see 1600 people being active on here regularly, i dont know what those statistics are based from but Im guessing its from logins.

The problem has been identified and discussed, Im glad to see that hopefully things are on a correct path.
