Why? - When you deal through paypal you receive the person's real name. If you get ripped then you can post the person's real name. If you deal with other methods of payment, then ask for their name when you buy the item.
I like this thinking and I'd guess that over 80% of the purchases on the board are from using paypal. Even though I think our new rules were from panic from a recent(at the time) scam that happened(granted it was eventually resolved), I think a lot of good has come out of it and HAS made our forum a better/safer place to deal items. I just don't think the name policy fits in very well with that.
Maybe we should make the name policy 'optional', but ask they provide it. This way, people can post items without their name and not get their post deleted and the people buying the product will have to make a decision if they want to buy something from someone who doesn't feel like offering their name(leave the 'trust' decision up to the buyer).
I think this would be a good step towards the center on this issue. Ask a seller to offer their name, but make it optional.
This essentially acts like an 'incentive' towards providing the name -- the incentive being perceived(true or not) trust in the person and a greater chance of their item possibly selling.
