I'm being lazy. So what about other people bumping your thread. Is that allowed now?

If it's just a "Bump" post then same rules apply. If they have something even half-meaningful then it's ok.

I also have an issue with having to post my full name publicly. Here's why,
Hypothetically speaking, let's say I'm a scumbag thief.
I see your for sale thread and get your real name and city, I realize I'm not that far from you, I go online and get your address, I get excited because your selling your parts because you just upgraded to even better shit! And I seen your build thread, and your rims are dope as hell, I call up my boys and we take a trip over to your house and while your snug in your bed, we take all your nice shit.

Disclaimer: I am not a thief, anybody that has done business with me knows I'm straight up. If I have to put my full name in the post, I don't want to sell parts here. There has to be a better way. Just my point of view.

Indeed...1 of many reasons to get rid of it.

We're always open to suggestions... This is a difficult problem to solve.

If you put your name on there...

1. How do we know its your real name?
2. How do we prevent things like you described?

If you don't put your name on there..

1. You get ripped off buying something... how do you track down the person?

It can go either way. The bottom line is there is no fool proof way to sell and buy parts online.

Here is my thought on posting the real name: I don't like it.
Why? - When you deal through paypal you receive the person's real name. If you get ripped then you can post the person's real name. If you deal with other methods of payment, then ask for their name when you buy the item.

I like this thinking and I'd guess that over 80% of the purchases on the board are from using paypal. Even though I think our new rules were from panic from a recent(at the time) scam that happened(granted it was eventually resolved), I think a lot of good has come out of it and HAS made our forum a better/safer place to deal items. I just don't think the name policy fits in very well with that.

Maybe we should make the name policy 'optional', but ask they provide it. This way, people can post items without their name and not get their post deleted and the people buying the product will have to make a decision if they want to buy something from someone who doesn't feel like offering their name(leave the 'trust' decision up to the buyer).

I think this would be a good step towards the center on this issue. Ask a seller to offer their name, but make it optional.

This essentially acts like an 'incentive' towards providing the name -- the incentive being perceived(true or not) trust in the person and a greater chance of their item possibly selling.
