doing business on the forum is your risk. only deal with people that have been around for awhile. have a couple purchases under their belt. when i was building up my 'rep' i was buying things from people that were known within the community. slowly started to sell stuff, and its there. then again that ISNT the responsibility of the forum or its moderators.

agreed. i personally dont like putting my real name out there on the internet. but then again when you do a transaction or a meet you in person, it isnt an issue.

yeah, if I am buying from someone with only a couple of feedback reviews or less, I ask if they have another forum where they are highly regarded..

I also keep my PM's until the transaction is complete..

really, if you get scammed on this forum, it's almost partially you're own fault..

Ya, but that's a private social interaction. The internet is a public place. Big difference.

The other option was to have your screen name in the mandatory photos. Most complained about that too.

The whole "real name" thing is pretty laughable, though. Sure you have facebook?

I can get an IP address associated with your account, and with a little legwork we can still get your information.

I do have a facebook account and its privacy is very strict. You'd only find it if you had my 'real-name' and other information as there is more than 1 person w/my name as is yours. What does that have to do w/the real-name policy here? I do not give out links to my facebook account on this forum. Your correlation doesn't work.

Plus, the MPAA/RIAA has a hard enough time getting court orders to request private information behind an IP address...don't think sr20-forum.com would have much luck there. The only thing you'd have is a general location(maybe) and ISP. That's all RIAA/MPAA has as well. Unless you try some cute hacks -- which is against the law and I doubt anyone on this forum is a 1337 black hat hacker.

Real-names doesn't add anything to our security policy here. Unless you can explain it to me given my previous clear points.

another issue, what if I have an item in storage, 280 miles away.. and want to sell it?

no pics............

do i have to make one trip up to take a pic, and another when it sells to ship it?

EDIT:keep in mind, generally speaking, I like the rules..

I agree names doesnt really matter. If you are using paypal to buy and sell,or a money order, and its in your name that info is provided anyway. There is no need to publicly have your name here.Thats why we have screennames, isnt it?

^ Truth!

If anything, it INCREASES the trust a scammer would have w/a buyer making scams EASIER. We need to get rid of this new 'real-name' policy for the benefit of the forum members and sellers.

answer me this Moderators.

Why do so many people trust that their bread isn't contaminated, but demand 2 or 3 different seals on their advil/tylenol/scope/peanut butter..

Bread comes in a thin plastic bag that can easily be penetrated with a needle without anyone noticing. The bread could be poisoned this way of course. Or the twisty tie could be removed, bread poisoned, and the twisty replaced, no one would ever know.

Why do bottles of things to be consumed require such greater levels of safety?

Because only bottles have ever been corrupted. Remember the Tylenol scare back in the 80's? It's reactionary thinking. We need to quit being reactionary..

There was that one guy with the VE head. We (as a forum) got lucky and knew his name. He's the one who claimed he couldn't find the time to package and ship the VE head.. yeah, that guy.. we happened to know his name... and it led the forum to his "capture" and return of funds.

so now we need to require EVERYONE to put their name on their for sale ad?

we're doing like George Dubya Bush did with the Patriot Act, we are selling a false sense of security at the expense of the privacy of the good people... all because of reactionary, the sky is falling, nonsensical garbage.

I don't mind my name being out here, but it should be something that's private on a PUBLIC forum..
