When I wrote the rules for the Classifieds, I included a minimum post count. It was either 25 or 50, I'd have to look.

Crim was going to be looking into the forum software to try to regulate it without need for moderation - I think it's possible, I've been on other forums using vBulletin where the software won't let you post until you've met the requirement. Anyway, I think it fell by the wayside.

... or just don't buy things from people with low post counts. I like the idea of new people being able to put their parts up for sale. Anytime you buy from a forum you are always taking a risk, and if you feel like your putting yourself at risk buying from a new member then don't buy from them.

Always use paypal over online transactions. Sure the fee sucks, but you got 10 days money back guarantee.

I would suggest against buying expensive things from someone with 0 feedback.

Which brings to the next point, please be polite and leave feedback for the people

I think they should be able to buy but not sell until after 50 posts or so. I join forums to find good deals on parts. I sure as heck am not going to want to post 50 different things in a place a know nothing about just because I can't buy the universal turbo I really want without doing so.

I guess you could argue that they aren't contributing members, so why should we care about them?

If you institute this limit, inevitably you'll have pointless posts from newer members just trying to get up to the limit, or worse yet people ignoring the limit (if it's not a technical limitation).

I think the minimum time limit is a much better idea than a minimum post limit, but still not perfect.

What exactly are we trying to stop? As far as I'm concerned, people coming here just to sell car parts is a good thing for the members.
Are we mainly trying to stop scams or forgetful/disorganized/poor sellers?
That's what the iTrader rating is for. Frankly, it's a good system I think. And if you want to sell something big like an engine or VE head or something I suggest the new seller find something small to sell first like a bolt or a relay or something simple like that which is a lot easier to sell with a zero rating to build their iTrader rating.

I swear we've had this discussion before. I wish I could find that thread.

I'm not against the ideas, I just think we can be better than that and not just follow what other forums do just because.

Ben,

If your sole purpose for coming to this forum is to post a part for sale, IMO you should not be welcomed here. Most people that have a join date within the last 30 days that come here to post an item for sale, have alterior motives. I lock their threads because I don't want other members to get shafted.

If they feel that they have something to benefit the community, then they need to become part of it. If they have personal references or links to other forums where they deal with a community and have no negative feedback, I don't see why their thread couldn't stay opened. 9 times out of 10 this is not the case, though.

Need I say more?
