It is a coilover, it just doesn't have adjustable height.

To the OP,
I've had the Nismo setup for quite some time and I really like it. It's a tad stiffer than the Spec V suspension, but it handles so much better. Wheels are 17" with 215/45 tires.

It even by it's own definition is a "spring and shock combo", that does not make it a coilover at least not in the customary way known in the industry.

Nismo is a waste of money IMO, if you want a decent drop go with Tein Basics or SS.

Off the top of my head, the suspension setups that are available:

Tein H Techs (springs)
Tein S Techs (springs)
Progress (Springs)
Nismo (Strut & Spring combo, non adj.)
K Sport (springs)
K Sport (adjustable coilovers w/dampening)
Tein Basics (adjustable coilovers)
Tein SS (adj. coilovers w/dampening)
D2 (adj. coilovers with dampening)

If you want value for your money, a nice drop and a quality ride, Tein Basics or SS is the way to go.

It does need an adjustable perch to be considered a coilover setup in my book. Otherwise, we can all say our cars have "coilovers" from the factory....which isn't the case.

Please read: http://www.europeancarweb.com/features/0607_ec_coilover_suspension_buyers_guide/index.html

...and please spare me the Wikipedia link...I know what it says...and it's incorrect.

It is definately not a waste of money. It may cost more money that other setups but not a waste by any stretch of the imagination. I've driven several set ups in B15's (B+G coilovers, Tein, Eibach, Progress) and I like the Nismo best for daily driving and occasional auto-X days. It's a great all-around setup and it takes like 45 minutes to install the whole thing.

You only quoted a part of my statement Sir. I said "Nismo is a waste of money IMO, if you want a decent drop go with Tein Basics or SS."

If you want a decent drop the Nismo won't cut it. You still have that 4x4 wheel gap with Nismos.

What about Eibach springs and GC's?

Same question on suspension, but I need something for road racing...no auto-x or anything, spirited driving and road racing at Summit.

I've been driving around with Koni yellows and Tanabe GF210's for a while, and they are a good compromise for road racing/daily driving/road trips to tracks. They are not coilovers, but the tracks around here are a bit too bumpy for linear springs. I used to have GCs and I switched over to springs. I was actually getting better lap times after.

I guess it all depends on track conditions...

Actually the drop is nowhere near 4X4 status of the stock ride height. Decent is a relative term, as is noticeable. I'm no Nisblo fanboi, but they work for me.

That's the setup I would run if things were different. Pro Kits and Koni adjustables are a nice alternative, but they might be right in the SS neighborhood. If the price was ~ the same, I would do tein simply because they are engineered to work together. (spring and damper)
