Gear Fluids for Our Trannys.
Hey guys. So check it out I use Red Line MT-90 and It is great stuff but I am curious. I used MT-90 on my Stock 99 SE-L tranny and heard alot of gear wind when no music was blaring. I now am a proud owner of a B15 LSD tranny in the same car and I run the same fluid. I still hear gear noise. What can I do to stop this or minamise the sound. I was thinking of draining my MT-90 out and replacing it with 2 quarts Heavy Shock proff and 2 quarts MT-90 mixed togeather. Someone told me they did this when they used to race the car before me. What do you guys think?

On that note what else do you guys know about the different Red Line fluids for our trannys or tranny fluids in general. Anybody prefer anything over the Red Line. Thanks.

I would just stick with MT90... a lot of people prefer it for a reason...

I feel the tranny may have some normal wear and tear on it but the noise is annoying and Red Lines Website says that shock proof can be used for troublesome trannys. It just seemed to make since that I should maybe use half MT 90 and half heavy shock proof.

I am really just trying to see if anyone here thinks that is a bad idea based on some experiece. I think it really may stop this gear wind noise and if it does I most definately will report back on here so others know.

Both. It's a little thick when it's below freezing outside (you can feel it when you're shifting), but it warms up after a couple of miles of easy driving, then it's butter.

Any SE-R guy in the know uses Redline. In your case I don't know that there is some magic mixture to fix your situation.

The heavy stuff will steal a few ponies from NA though. I got the light stuff by mistake once a few years ago and after that car would grind third at wot sometimes. I have MTL in the 98 and heavy in the 92. All types definitely need to be warmed up to do the job (duh).

Either way, save your self some time and use a little pump to get the tranny oil in.
