Thread: strange sensor on the intake snorkel..

anyone ever put an intake on an SE? there is a small sensor toward the end of the front black plastic snorkel, close to the headlight. Do I just leave it alone when hook up my cone filter?

That is your intake air temperature sensor I believe. I have mine just chillin' down by my CAI, not actually hooked up to it. I had it unplugged for a while but it threw a CEL so I just plugged it back in. Who needs accurate AFR anyways?

It doesn't affect anything to either unplug it or leave it plugged in and just laying in the engine bay. But like the other guy said, if you unplug the sensor, it will throw a code.

Actually on OBDII cars it can affect performance/mpg a little bit. What is usually suggested is to make a hole in the filter end or in the piping and plug the sensor in. Or you can just leave it dangling outside of the engine bay for colder temp readings

^^^ Yup Vadim, tell me about it. The Sentra I bought, the person who did the GA to VE swap on this hacked the IAT sensor off the harness. I'm lucky if I get to 130 miles at the halfway mark of the fuel gauge on mix driving.

Then something else is wrong. Mine has been unplugged for three years, I get about 320 miles with all city driving with a lead foot, and I get about 460 with all highway babying it. This is with a VE and my old DE with S4's

Jer.....everything else is okay, the only CEL I get is the IAT sensor. And the sensor is not to be found in the engine bay meaning it was chopped off the harness (98 harness) by whoever did the swap for unknown reasons. The VE is no longer in the Sentra, now replaced by a DE. I may resort to buying a new 98 harness from the dealer or rewire a IAT sensor from another OBD2 SR20 to the hacked harness.

Don't forget I'm up in the Northeast where the sub freezing cold weather can affect the A/F ratio.

130-140 sounds about right with the crappy winter blend we up here in the north so it doesn't freeze. go figure. heck im lucky to get 260-270mi for 10 gallons.

Yeah in his case something else is probably wrong.

As for where I got my information from? From testing myself, few members and mods that people do to cheat the IAT. Some people put a resister into the IAT, it throws the ECU off a bit and makes the car a little faster until the ECU self learns.

I would have to agree with Vadim, I just put my stock air box back in my b14 and sure enough my mpg rose by around 1 or 2 mpg more.
