Gauge cluster inop and blowing fuses
So, the gauges in my 1992 SE-R are currently inoperable and the fuses blow as soon as the ignition is turned on. It started with just the speedometer and tachometer going limp then the gas and temp gauges stopped working. The trans mission was just pulled and a new clutch was installed a few days ago. The gauge cluster is out of a Gti-R if that makes any difference.

Any ideas of what could be causing this or where I should be looking for a short. With the rate at which the fuses blow I am thinking there is a positive wire shorting out.

Was the cluster in this car and working before the trans swap?

It has been in the car for 10 years and working fine until Wednesday night.

Start pulling fuses and see which one changes the current state. That is probably the offender.

So, I pulled every last fuse and none were blown other than the 10amp for the gauges. I noticed my car is setup for the R/C Mirrors so I pulled that fuse and put it in the gauges slot. Well, the gauges work again with no issues. Probably just knocked some corrosion loose or fixed a bad connection with another fuse. Thanks for the suggestion!!!

A bad fuse or loose connection will not cause a fuse to pop. Only current overload pops fuses. That means short to ground, short to power, or short to other system pulling more current.

You said this issue dis not happen until after the transmission was removed and installed. I would take a close look around the transmission to make sure you did not pinch a wire or have a wire being pulled too tight due to incorrect wire routing. Check for signs of chaffing also.

Figured it out, just a loose connection at the transmission. Also the car is up for sale on the Denver Craigslist.

I would put up a post in the classified section but I am short on the required amount of posts.
