CSK, front housing in rear, too short?
I thought I had all the right research done, but I may have missed something. I'm using Koni Inserts, 8610 1409 Sport, in front B13 strut housings. I did NOT cut the nub for the rearsas everything said this wasn't needed. I cut the strut housing so that the insert nub was all the way at the bottom without poking through. Springs are Road Magnet, which I think are supposed to be 1" shorter than stock for the rear.

I finally got to the point of installation in the rear today, and suspected that something was wrong when the tab that holds the brake line was now at the same level as the hard line coming back to the rear. I measured the old and new strut height, and there is about a 4" difference, much lower than I suspected...

Are these too short now, and if so, why? I'm at a loss as to what went wrong here.

@Keo @blairellis @Boostlee

I never finished making mine, still in the "middle" with a pace as slow as molasses in a cold winter day.

The whole running the front strut housing in the rears are for coilovers not ots springs. There isnt a option for rear koni on ots springs.

Hmmm. I would think that the Koni insert in the front strut housing would be the same total height regardless of how the spring was mounted? That's my main concern, I think?

Incorrect, the front and rears lower spring perch is in a totally different location. Fronts being about 1" lower, if you get it on the way it is now, the rears will be at least another 1" lower. While on coilovers, the lower spring perch is adjustable.

Yes, I agree with that. But my point above on total height was, imagine you didn't have a spring on the strut. It really couldn't be any taller than it is now, right? With the insert placed in the front strut housing, the upper spring perch would still be at the same height at full extension, no different than if there was a spring installed.

Does anyone have a pic showing a rear B13 coilover next to a stock B13 rear strut to compare dimensions? I'm not finding anything in my searches for the B13 specifically, but I did find a pic from a B12 thread showing height very similar to what I'm seeing?

i should have changed the subject, i ended up finding proper rear B13 red koni inserts because the front B15 yellow's were too short.. i would not recommend B15 fronts in the B13 rear housing..

Appreciate that info. My understanding is that the Red inserts aren't available any longer for the B13?

I think I may be able to make this work, using a spacer at the top to give me back an inch up top. I've got the Polyethylene HDPE already, hope to fab something later this week for a test fit.
