Questions about overheating and head gaskets.....
Good morning.
I had a few questions that I hope you guys could help me out with.
A few months ago I overheated my '92 SE-R while driving home from work when the radiator grenaded on the highway. Afterwards the car had a misfire, but there was no coolant in the oil and no smoke. But the misfire was present as well as large air bubbles in the coolant overflow tank after the car had reached normal operating temperature. I figured the head gasket was blown. I did NOT do a compression check, which I should have done.
I finally removed the head this week to replace the head gasket and noticed that the factory gasket looked to be in good condition, as there were no obvious signs of damage. The head also had no visible damage or cracks. I plan on getting the head pressure tested, checked for cracks and machined again.
Is there anything else I need to look for? This is my first time dealing with a head/ head gasket issue. So even though I've had my SE-R for years I admit I'm a total noob when it comes to this. Any info would be appreciated.
