I think the prices and market on these cars is expected to go higher, as the price of gas gets higher.
I would go as high as $1600 for a good running SE car with low rust and a good black paint job to start with.
At some point, the fuel savings will increase value, as this car is capable of 28-32 mpg, if you keep your foot out of the pedal in the lower gears.
You can save the entire cost of the car, in one year of fuel $aving, over a mod'd 6 cylinder. Rusted bitch-bolts are a key factor as is the condition of the frame rails and fuel / brake lines. They seem to take a beating under the car, if it has been lifted incorrectly.
Make sure the brakes lines are safe. They can be obtained, if they are wrecked but this is a good way to complain about the price of the car and save a few bucks at negotiations.
Pillar rust is also a deal breaker. Almost everything else you can replace and doesn't matter.
