Single Key Mod?
Has anyone done a mod to only have a single key for doors/trunk/ignition?

Maybe I'm too picky, but I'm not a fan of having separate keys for door/trunk and ignition.

OEM only uses one key for everything.

I'm guessing someone replaced your ignition.?

need a locksmith to disassemble whatever is the least problematic (i.e. if key works for all doors + trunk but not ignition, ignition needs work)

they will disassemble the entire thing, and rearrange tumblers to make the key work. if the tumblers are not the right size for the job, then they should provide you some.

in short, you need a professional for a re-key. easiest way is to just replace them all with a matching set. probably will be cheaper too.

Thank you both.

I guess it's just a coincidence that both of my B13s have used a different ignition key than the doors/trunk key.

Sure you aren't using the tiny "triangular" key that is a valet key?

Every B13 I have ever owned used a single key for every thing.

If you are good with small mechanical devices, you should be able to re-key the locks yourself. The trunk is easy to get to, the doors are next hardest, and the ignition is the one I would avoid dealing with if I didn't have to.
Whichever key works for the ignition, I'd re-key the rest for that one. You may need new wafers, or you can leave off a wafer or two to get the key to work. Use your best judgment.

I just assumed it was universal, since both had black keys with this same shape cutout (probably the original one, or copies thereof) while the doors and trunk used grey keys or plain silver ones.

Rekeying the doors/trunk could be a fun little project, and I wouldn't be worried about removing some wafers, since I leave it unlocked most of the time already.

Gray key is original key. Black is aftermarket key. Are the cuts on the keys about the same shape or are they obviously different?

Thanks for all this info, but I'm pretty sure that I'm just a big dummy.

Since my first B13 had two keys, I assumed that all of them did.
This was reinforced in my mind because when I bought my SE-R recently, I got three pairs of keys, two grey, two black, and two plain silver.

This morning, I learned at all 6 keys start the car. I'll find out if any of them fail to open the doors/trunk and toss them.

The strange thing is that the cuts seem to vary quite a bit, but Single Key Mod success, I guess...

I have two keys aswell?!? One for ignition, and the rest is for the doors and trunk.

I solved it by getting a remote power unlocking kit, so I only have to carry that and the ignition key
