Thread: Brrrr.....friggin cold, no heat

So I just got finished reading the "how to" on changing the heater core....I would categorize it as a royal pain in my arse...first a little background on my symptoms. As many of you know I am sure, after 20 years or so, much of the smaller plastic parts in the car become quite brittle, case in point- I broke two heater levers in my car a couple months ago because the cable's (really not cable, just thick wires really) became somewhat stubborn so I naturally assumed the reason I wasn't getting heat was as a result of these broken levers...

The odd thing is, when I turn on the air it's not cool but it's not warm. It's just enough to melt frost on the windows but not enough to keep me warm. As if the thermal lever were stuck in the middle between hot and cold. I ran down to the pick and pull today and replaced the ac/heat control unit and as much as I love having working levers again, I still have no heat. I also notice that the thermal lever that control temperature moves just a little too freely so I am thinking it must be broken at the other end....I will obviously know more once I commence to tearing everything out...

on another note, I must make it a priority to replace all doors seals and sunroof seal (if possible) because the seals are so worn out that I had to scrape ice off the INSIDE of my windows the other morning....breath in, breath out, breath in annnnnd breath out

Ice inside can simply be trapped condensation from prior operation. When it gets that cold, the moisture will freeze on the inside window. On the B13, you can mix fresh air and recirculated air which I find more useful than one or the other as the newer models seem to have. (recirc button vs sliding lever) Still quite annoying but the B13 is not the most solid thing around and because of that, a gob of fun!

I don't know anything about the HVAC systems in the cars, never broke one down or had to fix anything outside of changing resistors and the blower motor itself.

Might also check that the heater isnt clogged.

Bad thermostat? My car gets temp on the gague but doesnt stay warm once im movin, i was gona change the thermostat tomorrrow seems i have the same prolbems. How do u unclog a heater core just un hook hoses n blast with a water hose? Or just replace because its easier?

Lucky me, the cable pulled of the lever at the heater core side...nice and toasty in the car and I have a new thermal control unit....happy days are here again

Perhaps i should check my lever while my new thermosts rtv is drying tomorrrw.

Does it work on all settings? 1-3?

Mine won't work on setting 4. It's def something to do with the lever inside the dash like you did. Which is the opposite of the blown resistor problem, ha.
