Then what would the 240sx be for? As much as everyone hates on FWD, the SE-R, CRX, and GTI really were the pioneers of the FWD sport compact movement of the 80s and 90s. They triggered the introduction of the ITR and now today there is still a market with the GTI, MS3, and Focus ST. Ya Nissan and Honda have fallen off but they were some of the originals and I think there's something to be said of that.

So from a sales perspective the two would compete with each other? they were not that far apart in price. maybe 4gs.

Maybe. But not a 4 door like Ben said, if it had happened (a 4 door b13 SE-R)

Since the 240sx is much smaller roomwise

I'm not saying making the B13 a RWD platform would have been a good idea, but I imagine the person advocating a RWD B-chassis wouldn't have any issues with it competing with the other Nissan offerings. Plenty of car companies don't worry about a RWD economy sedan competing with their RWD economy "sports" car. See: Datsun 510 and 240Z.
Or maybe they'd just scrap the 240SX all together, or move it up-market with a proper engine.

OR the 240sx should have come with a SR20DET from the factory in the U.S.

Typical Nissan stuff, no one knows why. Like why did they go from the 91-92 SE-R seats to the 93-94 seats?

I know there are lots of people who like the KAD24DE, but c'mon.... SR20DET vs KA24DE... not much of a match there.

That's what I just said.

We know exactly why the S13 came with the KA24 instead of the SR20DET.

Hindsight (knowing then what I know now) is one thing. Time travel into the future and back to 1990 with future technology is a whole different ballgame.

I may have misspoke. R134a, coil-on-plug (COP) and pre-cat's weren't in most manufacturer's engineering toolboxes at the time, and certainly wouldn't have showed up in a Sentra or equivalent. Sorry, unable to multi-quote but in reference to your notes...

1) Unheard of in 1990, especially in an "economy car"
2) Pre cats in 1990? WHAT???
3) Hindsight. Agreed
4) See #3
5) See #3
6) Thank goodness
7) '91-'92. The best
8) See #7
9) Agreed. As long as they kept the 150 mph (in print) speedo
10) Note to Nissan: See Honda shift linkage of the era
11) Unheard of in a 1991 "economy" car, but agreed
12) Now you're just complaining
13) Options sell cars
14) No comment. Never had one fail
15) Yep
16) SE-R.4
17) See #3
18) Agreed. Fuck Airbags
19) See S13 (and my XE)
20) WTF? For midgets?
21) ala my 1989 Ford Probe. Agreed
22) See #3
23) See #13
24) No comment, except for "no comment"
25) Technology wasn't there at the time. GM used coil-on-plug on their Quad4 starting in 1988. Ever had experience with an early Quad4? Pure crap.
26) See #3
27) See #12
28) See #27
29) Didn't exist in 1990. That whole time travel thing
