Yes, I agree, but, I have a few problems.. I have no where to work on it. And the other thing is time. My week days are taken and my weekends are taken (and I am traveling)
South eastern. I live in an apartment complex where working on cars in the parking lots is prohibited. Now no one cares if you change your oil or something, or a tire, but if I had my car up on jackstands for a few days with no wheels on it the complaints would probably start to roll in.
If you need to put it up in your apartment complex definitely take advantage of some local help. I've been working out in front of my place for a few years and as long as I get wheels up and down in a few hours there's really nothing you can't do. If you help a few neighbors change a tire or get a jump-start that rule will get pretty flexible.
If it was me I'd get a bunch of parts (AD22VF brakes come to mind) Get a whole hub assy so you don't have to take the one on the car to the shop a new axle oem if you can get it. Some beer and pizza and knock it out in 2-3 hours.

I live in one of "those" complexes where no one knows their neighbors. Hell I've never even seen them except in the parking lot. There was a notice saying any residents working on their cars in the lots are subject to hearing and a fine. I guess too many people were dumping oil all over the place. Some of it happens and is going to happen regardless, but I'd imagine some people just let it drain into the ground. When one is renting, they don't seem to care as much. Especially things that don't involve their security deposits (the parking lots).
yeah I mean we own this place so that puts any disputes on a different level. I know most of my neighbors and we usually say hello and sometimes chat etc.
The next option is to see if your locals have a place for you to work. Beer and Pizza still apply. You are still talking about a 50-60% discount versus a shop and that's if they make their $1000 estimate. I bet you hear some bamma from them about $1200 a few hrs. after you bring it in.
