Since apparently I can't search about A/C...
I figured I'd start a new thread. I have a 92 SE-R and I want freezing cold A/C. Obviously I have to convert to R-134a, though. The 94 SE-Rs are already converted. So can I just buy a compressor, dryer/accumulator, and expansion tube for a 94 SE-R and charge with R-134a and PAG oil? Seems easy enough I'm just double checking.

If you do that it is best to switch all the rubber lines as well and replace all the o rings in the system or you will loose freon. R134a is a smaller particle than R12 so it's very prone to leak in a R12 system.

But yes it should work, I've got a frankenstein AC system, lol. I've got a 94 compressor, a 91 condenser, 96 lines so I actually have 134a fittings, and a 94 receiver/dryer. The first year I tried it I didn't replace the o rings and it leaked from almost everyone of them It made it almost all the way through the summer. It's been two years since I've recharged it after replacing the o rings.

Does a 94 SE-R have a thermal expansion tube or an orifice tube? Should it be replaced on my car? And good idea on replacing the lines and o-rings, I didn't think about the smaller particles.

Also, when you bought your '94 compressor, did it bolt right up to the '92 bracket that bolts to the block? Did you have to get the '94 bracket to make it fit or was everything fine?

stop worrying about '94 stuff and just use any b14 stuff.

and just use google to search the forum for things the search wont give you, for example enter:

Condenser doesn't fit properly, one line doesn't bolt up, and dryer doesn't work.

Yes the 94 compressor does bolt right up to the bracket. IIRC the only thing they changed were the internals and the clutch.

Just realized today that my teacher can buy and charge R-12. There are two compressor models according to Reese's thread about A/C. One was made from 91-92 (part #NVR140S) and will work with R-12 only and the other was made from 93-97 (part #DKV14D) and will work with R-12 or R-134a. Which one would be better for running R-12? I think I'm just going to buy a compressor, dryer, expansion valve, and seal kit and vacuum and charge with R-12. Would you guys suggest a new condenser?
