Thread: Quick Manual Rack Q

I am looking for a manual rack and was wondering if the vin # would matter. I am looking at Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market and have to choose vin "1N4" or "JN1". My car is a 92 se-r btw and vin starts with "1N4"

Obviosly I should probably use "1N4" but wondering if there are any differences. You can find them cheap on the site btw. For everyone that was buying them for $100+ they can be had as low as $35.

I believe the J is the NX and the 1 is the Sentra. The NX was made in Japan. Should be the same.

Can anyone confirm that it doesn't matter I have wondered this myself.

I thought 1n meant made in usa and Jn meant made in japan. I could be wrong.

I would think the vin would definately matter since the E model sentra was the only B13 with a manual rack.

I understand that but they list a J (Japan built) and a 1 (US built) on car-part.com I am wondering if it matters which one I buy or not? My SE-R was made in the US.

I'll just be getting the 1N4, I'll post if there are any issues.

Ok it just kind of dawned on me. Not 100% but I was thinking accordingly to the vin decoding "JN1" are manufactured in Japan. Japanese vehicles should be right hand drive or does that matter? Can you just flip a manual rack around? I'm thinking probably not.

Your missing the point, they are just built in Japan then shipped to the US.
