cluster needle removal?

i want to paint the back side of my needles, but i dont want to break them in the process of removal. what is the safest way of going about this?

what color you gonna paint em? Maybe grab some from a different Nissan at the junkyard. I noticed there were a few mid 90's nissans that had orange needles compared to my p10 white ones.
