Why so much? I don't know.
Just Kelley Blue Booked my SE-R for shits and giggles, barely topped out private party value at 1,000 and yet if I wanted to buy a fully covered, warrantied engine from Nissan it would cost me 4,700. With the understanding that mileage and condition is a huge factor, even an excellent condition low mile SE-R won't pull in as much as the cost of a new engine. I don't really know where I am going with this, but, I think our SE-R's are worth a hell of alot more than what KBB says. Esepcially now-a-days where everyone is watching how many pennies they pour down their gas tanks.

because its a 20 year old sentra.

[/thread] lol...

I understand your pain... even my b14 bb'd for almost 4k roughtly 3 years ago... it took like a 2k hit in the last few. I don't know if you can relate that to the economic status or what... but for what its worth... check the blue book on a 1991 s13... its around 1.3k - but I sold mind for almost twice that and it was virtually stock.

KBB and other private party value estimators are as good as a nigerian quarter in an american vending machine... zilch. The only thing that matters is what the car is worth to the person that is purchasing. As long as there is a community, and the following is true, the cars worth will be controlled by us.

KBB has always been horrible at predicting the value of cult classics like our cars. Same happens to the BMW M Coupe guys. Same thing happens to the Porsche 944 Turbo guys. Same thing happens to the BMW e30 guys. It's just the way things go.

However, the price of a new SR20 Engine from Nissan has nothing to do with the value of our cars.

true,true,true,true....sad,but true.
I still love my car.Even if its worth zero.
I think someone should come out with a "market value book" specifically for imports. It would take mods and swaps into consideration.
For example...a 91-94 SE-R with a VE swap...Value should be about 1000 more than a comparable stock one.
Things like aftermarket wheels would add like 200 or something.
Just an idea, but I think about that sometime.
It would be cool to be able to have a different reference for value other than KBB or NADA. We all know they just group our cars in the "old economy POS category with old corollas, yugos, and GEO metros.

To the OP, for shits n giggles, take ANY brand new car and piece together the whole thing from the manufacturer. A 20k car will cost probably 100k, buying the whole thing in pieces.

I like eggmans advice, but, again, wayyyy too many factors. You can't add to the price based on aftermarket parts. Aftermarket parts typically take away from the value of a vehicle.

Say, for instance, I bought a 1995 Sentra GXE, and I decide to buy SE-R wheels and install them. That's actually like a factory upgrade, so I can ask for more money, if I decide to sell the car.

Now, say I bought that same 1995 Sentra GXE , and I decide to buy some ebay 19" chromed out spinnas. Can I still ask for more money when I sell the car?

Not all swaps/wheels/parts will add value. A VE swap that's throwing warning lights on your dash, compared to a stock car with no warning lights, will probably sell for less.

Again, wayyyyy too many factors to have some sort of KBB/NADA type valuation.

^^ aah yes.But the key would be for people wanting a stock car goto KBB,NADA.
Those wnting a "modded" car would have some sort of guide to help determine value of added mods.
We all know that we dont get our money back for thta stuff, but surely a fully bolted SE-R should pull more than a bone stock one in the same condition, miles, etc.

Not everyone will agree my girlfriend is hot, either, but she is to me.Thats all that matters.
