Pretty sure my 5th gear synchro died. Did a 5th gear swap to eliminate popout a couple weeks ago. New 85w140 masterpro trans fluid from o'reilly, etc. At first everything worked out just fine. Shifting felt smooth, 5th gear engaged fine, no popout. But after a few days, my trans began to grind when I was shifting into 5th. Over the course of a week, it was getting harder and harder to get 5th gear to engage (more and more grinding each drive) until it finally would not go into 5th gear anymore. All bits were re-installed as they were removed, so I am not sure what could have gone wrong. Trans was pushing 300k miles (as far as I can calculate) though, so that may be a factor.

Been driving it around the past week using only up to 4th gear (55-60mph only) and am not looking forward to dropping the trans again. Pretty sure my brand new $150 5th gear is toast. Probably going to buy ANOTHER 5th gear and maybe a synchro, too, and swap both into my spare trans. Not sure if there are any other issues with that trans though, as it was sitting in the trunk of my SER when I bought it. Anything I can eyeball to tell if something is wrong with my spare trans gears/synchros/etc? I have the gear cover off already.

I swear, if it's not one thing, it's another....

And to add insult to injury, I finally got to play with my new consult cable.

Any ideas where to start?

I wouldn't worry too much about Code 21 & 34, try clearing them and see if they come back.

Code 33 on the other hand, start the car, let it warm up, and go to the gauges screen.

Inspect O2 sensor1, and see how fast it switches between lean and rich (low/high voltage). If it doesn't switch anything at all, you have a bad sensor. Or, if it switches to slow, it's also bad. See how many switches /10s you get!

A bit late posting this up but I went racing last weekend at VIR. Ran extremely well and improved my personal best lap time by 6 seconds down to a 2:21.2

attempted to swap out the pass axle today. when i put them side by side, the new/reman axle i got from vatozone was about an inch too short and the splines wouldnt even reach to seat. what a fucking waste of gear oil, old shitty vibration prone clunking axle is back on for the time being.

changed the oil, gear oil (valvoline durablend 80w90) pass side ball joint, and sway bar endlinks for the front while i was at it since i couldnt accomplish what i wanted to. 10w40 castrol edge, motor seems to run a little smoother vs 5w30 which i though was thinner than water when i did the last oil change... i doubt it held 30w viscosity when warm, my guess is it was closer to 20. also, found a bolt missing from the power steering pump bracket... the long one at the bottom, and im not sure that it did anything at all other than fix the slight belt squeal i had. popped that fucker right in, had to losen the other bolts and jam a small crow bar in there to get it to line up but that was the easiest thing i did today so not stressing it.

fuck i want an axle i dont want to worry about and doesnt make strange noises and vibrations over 90mph. not going to spend $300 for a new oem. anybody got an old oem one they can sell me that is suitable for a rebuild?

when i drain/fill again, i will go with a mix of mt90 and shockproof heavy. i guess the good news is there werent any scary metal shavings on the magnetic drain, and the gear oil i used was cheap and on sale ($4 per quart at local mom and pop auto parts store) now its time to smoke weed to get out of this pissed off mood im in.

as a tip, avoid autozone remans, they are remanufactured CHINESE parts. the manufacturer is interparts, and im 2 for 2 now with them so im 99.9999% sure that i wont find an oem reman from autozone. hopefully an a1 cardone is an oem reman that i can grab from oreilly.
