I bought quality, I know this, it was just incorrect. All these parts stores get their lists ultimately from Nissan. Nissan issues a list of parts and what make/model/configuration they fit and the parts stores sell what Nissan says will fit.
The problem is, Nissan has issued bad lists in the past, and with our cars they seemed to have gotten things wrong on a semi-regular basis in their list. You can't find the correct front brake rotors for our cars because Nissan had that wrong in their database when they sent it out. They may have updated it and the parts stores never follow through with the update? Who knows? Nissan fucked up. Same thing goes for axles, or axle seals, or a bunch of other stuff. If you try to buy these parts local you will get the wrong ones. Sometimes you can get the right ones by telling them you have ABS even though you don't, or some other wacky shit.
There are very few places that will sell you the correct drivetrain/fuel parts for these cars. These places have first and second hand knowledge with these cars and have updated their own databases to make sure they get the correct parts to you. These are the places that care¹. Greg Vogel is the man with the best prices, best customer service, and best parts database. He won't ask you the transmission code for your car or any other ridiculous question because he's customer oriented, and he knows exactly what car you have, and has worked on them and owned them for over a decade.

We don't try to keep the secrets. Nissan fucked up. Many of us have tried to get the other parts store's databases corrected but have had no luck. We don't like it either, but that's the way the cookie has crumbled.
¹For halfshafts, buying OEM is a very expensive proposition. You can trust Raxles to sell you the correct (and high quality) halfshafts for our cars at about half the price of OEM. Greg Vogel will likely recommend them over buying OEM anyway when you speak to him over the phone to place your order. The same as he did with me many years ago when I called to order an axle.
