GA16 - Too cheap for a SR16 or SR20, next best thing?
Looking for a next-best-thing I can do with my motor. A B13 with a GA16 that's running rough right now, needs a tuneup (new belts, alternator, spark plugs, air filter...), looking for things I can do performance wise to give this motor a bit of a kick. Too cheap to get a SR .

clean her up. Get the preventive maint done. Then get rid of the factory exhaust. It sucks. Keep it quiet though, you don't want anyone thinking it is actually fast. Cause it aint.

Good clutch along with intake, header, exhaust, and nitrous.

A stock SE-R exhaust would probably do wonders, and be way more capacity than would be useful for a GA. And it would be quiet and fairly discrete.

The OE muffler is of excellent design, of course it produces back pressure to reduce noise, but only above where non cammed SR20DEs poop out, or after 6500rpm. With or without a cat the stock muffler is producing results close to the turbo muffler, but MUCH quieter. The OE muffler seems to start increasing back pressure at about 5500 rpm on up. Nissan did their homework in designing that muffler, the back pressure buildup corresponds very nicely with the stock engine performance characteristics. A stock SR20DE starts to choke after 6500rpm, the OE muffler ramps up 1 or 2 psi till about 6500rpm where it sharply increases to its maximum.

I put a Hotshot CAI on a stock GA16 200sx.
That was a surprising gain for a single mod.Very good bang for the buck if yu can find one.
The upper rev range was much better.
But ...its no SR thats for sure.

Make it run right, do all that routine maintenance.

Then leave it bone-stock, while you save your money for a SR20.

There is nothing you can do to that motor for $400.00 that will equal the gain from an SR20 motor swap.

I have a '94 b13 Sentra E that I purchased a couple of years ago. Purchased with 163,000 miles and currently have 194,000 miles. On my recent trip to Austin to purchase the '93 NX2000 it got an impressive 39.91 MPG.

I bought it and gave it a good tune-up, then I have done the following mods:

SE-R Steering Wheel
SE-R F & R Seats courtesy of Burnt SE-R
SE-R F & R Sway Bars with ES bushings
AGX & Hyperco Gen 1 Springs
K&N Drop-in filter
Tinted windows

Mods to still do are the following:

B13 SE-R Muffler section (the B-pipe is the same)
New ES motor mounts
Thinking about installing a header

Do the tune up. Save up and sell this one. Sr20 powered cars are pretty cheap these days.
