It is a very easy way to get some extra pounds off the nose-heavy fwd vehicle.

All good options but I wanted one with a good warranty and could be bought close bye so if it takes a dump or is DOA I can replace it easily.

Went with Walmart 51R-4 from 2006+ Miata. $67 with 2yr full replacement 72month prorated. Lot smaller than the stocker, cheaper, and not made for a lawnmower or snowmobile.

I should get a tender but I have no garage and we live in a small townhouse complex. Can't be running the thing across the sidewalk to my parking space.

not bad i was going to recomend walmart, but sometimes even their batteries can be expensive, i bought one for my volvo 850 and it was like 75 which i thought wasnt that bad verses pep boys trying to charge 120.00 for a battery which i thouhgt was crazy i always wanted a optima batery for my ser but never ventured into that

I like the Optimas a lot but have heard a lot of bad stuff about quality these past few years. The guy at AZ said they recondition the cells on the deep cycle ones and they aren't always properly rehabbed. It took him 4 tries to get a good one. I'm not gonna do that.

It's tough to have a car that you never drive and have a chunk of change tied up in. I think about selling my car occasionally, too. I always come to the same conclusion:

1) I would really miss the dreaming, researching, planning, installing, repairing, replacing and driving.

2) I wouldn't get nearly enough $ for it

3) I would inevitably end up replacing it with a more expensive/problematic/time-consuming project car in the not-so-distant future (FD + LS1 = drool).

I think the best way to escape the 'modded but unused car' rut, is to get out there and use it. Commit to getting together with other car nuts and racing it (autoX, road course, drag, whatever) -- drive the car the way it was meant to be driven.

I don't know about you, but a heavily modified Sentra sucks to 'cruise' around in: stiff ride, no radio, peaky engine, loud, lousy paint etc. It's even worse if you have a nice, newer daily driver. On the other hand, hammering the sh*t out of it in a controlled environment is a blast.

I like the Optimas a lot but have heard a lot of bad stuff about quality these past few years.

I have a trunk-mounted Optima Red Top with cut-off switch. I parked the car in late November, turned the cut-off switch to OFF position. Nice weather is back and road salt is gone, so I've put it back on the road. As part of the prep I threw a charger on the Optima expecting it would need a charge -- it read fully charged! Sure enough, it cranked right over. Great battery!

Optimas were the best till af ew years ago. I have a new one, less than 2 months old. ALREADY i have to replace it. its only showing 420 cold crank amps when it should be like 720. I had a redtop last 7 years in my 71 510, finally replaced it and im on my 2nd one in 3 years. sigh so much for what used to be quality.

i always wanted the optima but never found them the abilty to be justified since they arent compact and almost 200.00 and was never real sure on their quality
