I had to do the same thing to my crossmember.....glad i wasn't the only one.

Although i had to shave the upper oil pan in a few places to clear the rest of the crossmember.

Instead of just saying that, you could enlighten us what to do and be more helpful.

I'm pretty sure my method would work just great for the 4-fog Sunny bumper.
However it works better if the turbo is clocked up.

It completely clears all stock components (I don't have A/C but it would clear the compressor and lines just fine) and is 2.5" on both sides.
If you have an A/C condenser up front you'll want to go with a thinner intercooler or be prepared to notch into the bumper.

There's hundreds, if not thousands of pictures in my build thread if you want to check it out, but those links cover the charge pipes pretty well.

Ben,

I am sorry but, your IC piping looks horrible. Especially that hot side pipe.

Yah aesthetically you could do a lot better on the hot side by using the bluebird outlet pipe instead of modifying a GTi-R pipe. I have plans of moving to that in the future and highly recommend if you try to duplicate my hotside that you do the same.

As far as performance goes, I think my hotside is above all others I've seen.

I am curious on your take on this. How do you figure it performs better than all others?

Not trying to pick a fight just very curious as to why.

These are the things it does to promote flow and prevent terbulance that other hotsides I've seen don't have.

  • Very short overall pipe length
  • Less bends (270 degrees total)
  • Shallow pipe bends
  • Wide charge pipes (2.5")
  • Smooth/gradual transition from turbo outlet size (approx. 1") to final charge pipe size

Vadim mentioned the one thing that could be improved (I agree) would be to not have it run above the exhaust manifold (heat soak). I have a heat shield on the manifold so that helps some.

All the other hot sides I've seen have long pipe runs, smaller pipe size (2" and smaller is very common), very tight bends especially those with turbos clocked "down", many more bends than mine, and harsh transitions from the turbo outlet size to the final charge pipe size.
