Thread: help!! car shut off. no power

car- 91 sentra se-r
motor- sr20Ve
ecu- calum basic
dist.- VE
mileage- 84,000 (body)


ok,
i was leaving my house earlier today, and i noticed my clock under my tach was reset to 1:00. after a few mins of driving i noticed the dash lights were going dim when i decelerated. so i pulled over and checked my battery leads and alt. leads...everything looked fine so i started it up and drove away.. about 5 mins down the road i pulled into a parking spot and the car just shut off.

when the car shut off i lost all power to the inside. Although i could hear my fuel pump and the headlights were still on. i turned the key on and off a few times.. no luck... popped the hood, all wires were connected. at this time i though i fried my ecu or main fuse..

i got back in the car and tried to start it.. it started!but still no power to the inside.. ie no tach, volts, fuel level, radio, inside light...

went inside a fast food joint for a few mins(10) and when i started it back up everything was fine.. all lights on and everything normal...

what could have happened??
i plan on checking all my grounds tomorrow when i can see (daylight)
where should i start???

alternator probably crapped out...

i checked it and its putting out 14.1 volts.. kinda high i think..

Check the main fusible links coming off the of the positive on the battery terminal. I know they can get corroded to **** over time. I know when mine broke, all my inside lights were gone. Just an idea.

Check relays and fuses too, just in case.

also check your grounds, our cars are notorious for having the ground on the t-stat housing corrode. it affects alot of things, happened to me once .
