MAF Question
Does a MAF sensor ever go bad? If so what options are there to replace it with?
I know of a certain B13 that might need its MAF replaced (250k mi) but the stealership wants $500+ for it
Any suggestions?

Yes. the MAF can go bad. The options to replace the MAF are to find a used one ($25-$50), but a remanufactured one ($100-$200) or buy a new one ($500). Buying a used one at this point might just lead to more trouble since they are all getting pretty old. Google Rockauto for new and remanufactured listings.

In addition you might first try using a MAF cleaner following the manufacturers recommendations.

There are some threads on the forum about how to detect a bad MAF and what the symptoms are.
