Thread: used car check points

Just curious when purchasing a B13 what are some issues that you should be looking for other than the known 5th gear popout?

Rust on rockers, rust on rear and front fenders, rust underneath the front and rear fenders, rust in the upper strut towers in the rear. Wheel bearings, bushings, rusted away exhaust, leaking trunk, drooping headliner, broken sunvisors, stretched out seats, faded seats, speedometer cable broken, clutch cable breaking, resistor switch for blower motor going out, drooping doors, worn out key cylinders/key, cracked dash, high mileage...

That's all i can think of for now bud.

That cracked dash kills me.

The sagging doors, headliner, and cracked dash are the most annoying.
Rust is the most heart wrenching.

Fixing it all is where all the fun is!

Don't forgot rotting rubber pretty much anywhere - aforementioned bushings, fuel lines, vac lines, even washer lines, leaking p/s pump, leaking/broken sunroof, worn out/broken battery terminal rings, worn maintenance parts like brakes/axles/clutch and related replaceables that aren't bad individually but add up pretty quick if you do all that at once.

If it doesn't have "SE-R" on the right side of the trunk lid forget it.

clutch cable gave out after a week of me getting the car. Mine also had 5th gear popout but i got a new tranny sitting in my kitchen waiting for the new motor to put it in.
