Thread: Help me figure out this sound.

Well about a week back it started doing this when it rained and now its none stop. It sounds like a warp rotor noise but I believe its not a warp rotor. I can only hear it when the car is decelerating under 40mph. Acceleration/cruising makes it stop. In gear out of gear still does it. Clutch engaged and disengaged still does it. Braking doesn't change the sound just slows down the frequency. The frequency of the sound goes up with wheel rotation. Does it when warm. Rev the motor and no change. Sound coming from driver front area. Gets louder when turning right and quiets down when making left.

These are all the things iv noticed and I have no idea whats the cause.

Any help will be appreciated.

Wheel bearing. 90% sure.

I'm with Ben. Sounds like a wheel bearing. I would go ahead and replace the other side if one goes bad.

Thats what I thought but wouldn't a bad wheel bearing shake the steering wheel?

Any time I've had a wheel bearing failure I haven't experienced any shakes or noticeable change, only noises.

No shake, but a howling noise that varies with speed. More noticeable when slowing down would IMHO be the wheel bearing. Been through this enough to know that sound anywhere. And yeah, replace both sides and be done with it.
