It could be a failing cat, but it is much more likely that the exhaust is in need of a resonator. I will be replacing my entire cat with the longest resonator i can find. To be honest, under power I don't really mind. Most are so surprised, they just think it sounds sick. Those who don't like it must be the quite types because they never tell me

So yea, after I get a resonator on, which should be within the next month, I will be sure and let you know. I do also know others were having similar problems with the de and raspyness. Maybe the WS2 is just prone to bringing that rasp out. I guess its just a "high maintenance" type of muffler. It sounds great, but it needs to have everything just right .

Here is a great example. ser007's ws2 had allot of rasp and it turned out pretty decent after a resonator: http://sr20-forum.com/showthread.php?t=3814
You can hear its got a great note that you can't get in other mufflers.

I know of a few others who have just slapped them on and they have sounded amazing, so who knows the real cause. There are other vids floating around, search on the old forum for them too.

SP2 was great on my buddy's RSXs (i/rh/k-pro etc). He just took it off in favor of a BC ProSpec... I might have to steal his muffler

Mine isn't loud.
3" w/ 7" diameter magnaflow muffler and no cat just a resonated test pipe
No raspyness. Only loud above 4k and of course VVL.

Bingo. Educated guys in every thread on exhausts says the same thing.

NO doubt whatsover, that the biggest resonator you can stuff under your vehicle will deepen and significantly quiet down your exhaust.

x2 for the hks catback system which was on sale a while back. I'm really likening it, almost stockish but much deeper, especially in an enclosed space (parking garages etc.) just a really deep rumble.

x3 for HKS. Has a nice, deep rumble at idle, quiet under light throttle, a good roar when you get on it, and no drone with the CAI.

If you are going to run a straight through muffler for a resonator, make sure it is drilled and not louvered. Most (like the Cherry Bombs) are louvered and hurt exhaust flow a lot.
