Redline Tuning Hood Struts
I recently had some hood struts installed by Redline Tuning here in Michigan, and I wanted to let people know that this option exists. It is a fairly easy install, if you don't mind drilling holes into your car and you have access to a rivet gun. It holds the heavy B13 hood no problem, and its catch point is about mid-way up. That means that after you release the hood latch over the grill, you have to lift the hood up to about the halfway point before the struts take over. And then when closing it, it falls from the midpoint without issue so that it closes well. The only thing I am concerned about would be rust from the exposed metal where the holes were drilled. I am going to cover the rivets in silicon, but I would recommend treating the holes before putting the rivets in if you do it yourself. The website is here:
Redline Tuning - Hood Support, hood lift, gas springs, hood strut, hood struts, bonnet, bonet, hood lifters, hood damper, prop rod, hood lift, QuickLIFT, Quick LIFT
They do not list B13 sentra on their website just yet, but they have the kit designed and you should not hesitate to contact them if you are interested in it. Here are some pics of them on my car:

The only negative I can see is you couldn't remove the hood when you are doing an engine swap. I know it isn't necessary when you drop the motor from the bottom, but it sure makes things easier.

I think the struts pop off the mounting brackets so taking the hood off shouldn't pose a problem.

why do you still have a hood prop?

In case the struts fail. Experience with the struts on the hatch of my Dad's NX has taught me to have a backup. And since nothing would really be gained by taking off the prop, why not leave it there?

Probably around $90 based on the cost of some of their other kits. Because I was the "test" car for this, I got it free. Btw, they are looking for a B14 test car (and maybe an NX), so if you know anybody near Detroit who wants this, let them know (or contact me if you want more info).

Talk to them about it in the middle of winter. At that point most people in Michigan would do whatever they can to get to some warmth.

E-mail them through their website. They do not have the kit posted yet on their website, but they do know what the kit is. They may just be writing up the instructions for it so they have not added it to their website yet. E-mail them and tell them that you're interested and you saw it on my car, I'm sure they'll sell it to you.
