I just finished the change and the new one is in. Despite running the car with the fuel pump off until it died, there was still a lot more fuel in the line than I had anticipated, so I got as much up as I could (I had rags handy, fortunately) and now I'm letting the engine bay air out with the hood open for a while.
Thanks for all of the help, the advise was immensely helpful. After taking off the intake, I loosened the screws on either side of the filter and then twisted the filter until it started spinning freely in the tubes. I used the upholstery remover tool (8.99 at Sears) and it popped right out! Along with some fuel. I will let the gas that made it into the engine bay evaporate out overnight and then test it in the morning. Thanks again for all of the help!
