Thread: Hood pins, latch removal, issues?

Months back I recall seeing someone post something about the hood being floppy or some similar issue when you remove the stock latch (B13) and the hood is only secured by hood pins. I've tried various forum and Google searches and can't seem to come up with what was said, and I'm not really finding any indication that there is cause for concern, but I figured I'd start a thread just to see if anyone has seen problems.

I'm planning to have standard hood pins at the corners with retainer clips using the stock radiator support bar to anchor these. Hood hinges will still be in place for lifting the hood, I'm not planning to do pins on all 4 corners at this time.

We use hood pins on a B14 with no issues. Can't comment on your situation.

For me, the hardest part of installing the carbon fiber hood on the B13 was aligning it properly so it wasn't off center, or sticking up too much in the back. It took a bit of trial and error.

I'm using the factory hood and hinges up near the windshield. My only concern is removing the factory latch in the front center. My recollection was something about air getting under the hood causing it to flutter, or something like that, at higher speeds.

First question, is the latch broken? If it's not, then why bother. We reused the factory hinges, and the front of the hood itself sits on rubber stops in the bay out of the factory. The aftermarket hood pins we used are adjustable in height, therefore you can control just how high or low the hole is that the lock pin will slide through. So it really shouldn't move, we have not had this issue.

Latch isn't broken. But I think one of the series I'm looking at may have required that the latch be removed. But I need to go back and confirm that, definitely easier to leave the working latch alone.

No issues here either. As long as you get the front height the same it makes zero difference. Just make sure you get the good pins and not the AL crap.

Super sentra has them without the hood latch if you'd like to see them in person. Never had an issue whatsoever...even well above toll road speeds
