Thread: bfg drag radials or mickey thompson

Was looking at getting some street slicks for my car...am trying to decide between micket thompsons ET street radials and BFGs drag radials(am leaning toward the bfgs), was wondering everyones thoughts on the 2..also Im currently on 215/35/18 tires could I run 245/35/18 on the bfgs?

For drag radials I would get mickey thomson et streets. I have BFG 215/60/14 drag radials and they spin alot, even at 15lbs and long burnout.

The car is gonna be a 99 percent street driven I just need something that can handle 450 hp on a FWD setup, once over 320 hp I cant push it without my street tires slipping. think the mickeys will be good for street and not 2 much for my tranny?

At that power range I don't believe ther are any tires that would fit a b13,b14 that would somewhat hook and have any meaningful treadlife.

Mickey's or Hoosier's Me personally I have seen a guy on the highway driving a DSM eclipse with so much boost the car kicked side ways after pressing the gas at 60mph he caught it and managed to straiten the car out then kept accelerating this was ridiculous I though he was gone for sure . He was using the Hoosiers that day. He has about 450hp so I know those tires won't let you down. The tires didn't let him down that day.

Iv heard of hoosiers to haven't done any research on those yet, I will only be driving on 320 mostly its just hard to keep traction right now. Iv heard of people using the mickeys but I hear they are super sticky. I'll check out those hoosiers

I ran the 225/60/14 BFG and they hooked pretty damn good. Me and my buddies are switching to a bigger tire. We can clear 235/60/15 tires up front. The front gets jacked up higher but for a DOT approved tire and livable for daily driving, they are the vote. This is with the MT ET streets. I checked them out the other day and the compound is so soft on the MT's. I doubt they will have much life after some runs on high boost.

Without going through the whole argument of "why would you need to hook up with 450hp on the street," I've always know that the general consensus is that Hoosiers are made for the track ONLY. They are bias ply, amongst other reasons. Plus this is lifted directly from their site:

And this doesn't even factor in a normal variable like rain.

Looks like I won't go with the hoosiers then I think I will stay with the bfgs, I hear good things about them, I hear the mickeys last a shorter amount of time, cost more, and are too sticky for street(hence tranny problems.) Think I should get smaller rims instead of 18s...? I know BGF makes a 245/35.18, so that means it will be just a little wider than my tires now, how much diff is there in that and 215/35/18?

Come on who follows the rules these days live a lil. Stop scareing the kid. That would apply to any R compound tire as well then.
