Learn me about classing a street driven four door
I've been keeping my eyes open for a project car. I've decided that it needs to be a good street daily and also needs to be able to tear up the track.

If I were autocrossing, I would just build it for STS class.

I want to road race though, and I have no idea what the classes are. SoloII seems to cater to the street/race hybrid machines with their stock and street touring classes. Are there road racing classes like this?

I'm less than three hours away from VIR. (Does anyone know of good courses near Charlotte NC?)

I want to do another four door sleeper, but the only classing issue I can think of is I will need to at least have an SR20DE in it. I'm planning on going SR20DE + T later down the road.

Right now this is the best option. The rules are very lenient.

So I can run a SR20VE 4 door in the same class as a SE-R?

Also... couldn't an EG run a TSX K24 motor? Seems like that would destroy all.

Power isn't everything. After the track day I would definitely say suspension far more important then raw power. I rode with 3 different buddies of mine that were all n/a. They all had good suspension setups so on the front strait the turbo cars would make a quick dash then by the second turn we would be on their as*es again.

The Honda will only be limited to 250 hp and so will you. Your weight will be 50 lbs. less too. I recommend looking into buying a car with a cage already installed or fully assembled. It can be a hell of a lot less, especially now a days.

I"d say just rock a DE and get better at driving. You don't really need a lot of power. www.performancetouring.com will give you some insight into classing for NASA. I say get a decent amount of track days under your belt and then progressively move up.

SeRacer is right. Getting an already built car is really the cheapest way to do it. Also I"d recommend a honda civic/crx/integra or a miata. They out handle the sentra's and parts aren't too expensive. Parts are also plentiful for the miatas and honda's.

I already have an Se-R shell to work with. If I didn't already have it though I'd personaly probably look into a miata, a 240sx, or a MR2 non turbo. I prefer the handling traits of Rear drivers.

A P10 might be what your looking for. Four Doors, Sr20, better front suspension than the Sentras, also cheap to buy these days.

As for tracks there is CMP, Road Atlanta, and Rockingham that are pretty close to Charlotte. NASA is having a track day at Lowes Motor speedway this year. Maybe it will become an annual thing. Lowes is right in Charlotte you won't have to drive far.
