P2R Power Rev Racing Thermal Intake Manifold Gasket
I changed out my intake manifold gaskets on my VE and decided to give this a try. They're being marketed as a thermal replacement gasket for the VE intake manifold.
Initial reaction, it looks and feels like it's just a piece of plastic or nylon material that's been cut to the shape of the intake gaskets. Not real high hopes for these, but if they seal, I'll be happy.
Here's an image of the ebay listing, not sure if it's readable, but here's word for word their listing.
"P2R Power Rev intake gaskets will help reduce intake air temps by removing the direct connection of the intake manifold to the cylinder head. By placing this thermal gasket in between the intake manifold and the cylinder head. You will help reduce the amount of head soak the intake manifold normally absorbs from the cylinder head.
JDM SR20VE Engine Only"
I don't own an infrared thermometer so couldn't take temperatures to see if it actually does reduce temperatures, however after a short (but spirited) run around the block the plenum was very hot to the touch. I don't believe there's much if any cooling vs. stock gaskets, but I didn't have any vacuum leaks around the gaskets so as far as gaskets go, they do their job. They are thicker than the stock gaskets so one problem is the nuts for the studs on the upper intake runners only thread about 3/4 through the width of the nut. The studs should be replaced with longer threading.
