NismoTronic Nemu RT Tuning Package Review
NismoTronic Nemu RT Tuning Package Review

The NismoTronic tuning package includes NEMU daughterboard, NismoTronic tuning software, and TunerCode firmware, combined into the best OEM OBD1 tuning solution. Tuning and logging is done side by side. You can make changes to the tune, upload them, go for a quick drive, review the log and update as needed.

NismoTronic uses TunerCode firmware for the ECU. Dave Dunn was able to reverse engineer and rewrite the firmware. This means that every single item is tunable, no more unknown tables of functions. Dave also properly documented all of the functions, thus if you are not sure about what a table does, you can easily find out.

NEMU Installation

Installation is pretty straight forward, but isn't for the faint of heart. JKTuning will install it free of charge if you send in your ECU or purchase one from him.

Do it yourself How To Guide

Single USB Plug and COM Port
NEMU boards use one single USB Port and a single COM port, this makes for a simple and easy setup with your computer. You don't have to worry about using Consult port or Consult adapters. This is very helpful if you have a car that didn't come with a Consult port at all.

If you have used a Calum Real Time ecu, you will be familiar with the two COM ports. While it was mostly trouble free, if the COM ports where above #10, you could have some issue with some software recognizing those ports. Having one port saves the trouble, plus NismoTronic software auto finds and auto connects to the proper port, making it a true plug and play device.

Analog Inputs

NEMU comes with four external analog inputs, which you can use for things like wideband, MAP Sensor, Oil Pressure, etc. Now they key here is, external inputs, before you would have had to tap into an existing input. Say for wideband you would have to tap into your Front O2 sensor's signal wire, and for MAP you would have had to use your MAF's signal wire.

Digital Outputs

Outputs lets you use take a non-used output and activate another item with it. For an example for VE guys, you can use your EGR or AIV output to activate the VVL solenoids which would activate the high cams, no need for an external Window switch, so money back into your pocket! You can also use these outputs to enable Nitrous, or just about anything else that needs an on/off switch.

Best part about this, you can enable these outputs based on TPS, RPM, Coolant Temperature (CLT), and Vehicle Speed (VSS). In my case this allows me to activate VVL cams at 3,000rpm, with TPS greater than 50%, and coolant temp above 160*F, I can still cruise at 80mph at 3,500 rpm and be on low cams saving gas, but as soon as I press my gas pedal above 50% high lobes will be used.

Usable Outputs:
EGR
Front O2 Sensor Heater
AIV
Air Conditioner

Wideband Support

NismoTronic has great wideband support, no other software but NisTune supports AEM UEGO widebands. This made me switch from using Nissan Data Scan, ECU Talk, and TunerCode to using NismoTronic.

Onboard Logging
NEMU boards have the ability to auto record a log while you are driving, without your laptop being hooked up. Like with digital outputs, you do this by setting up triggers, once the trigger is met logging will turn on, as soon as you are outside of the trigger's range logging will stop.

This is a useful feature for getting logs done while you daily drive and don't have your laptop with you, this is also very useful if you go racing and are required to remove all of non-attached items.

Logging & Graphing

Logging is done within the software, you can record a log, review it and make updates very easily. Map tracing is included by default in the log, thus you can pin point the cells you need to tune easily. Graphing window shows the recorded log and you can replay them.

All of the tables show where the graph is at with gray cells. You can see my selected cells in light blue, which also shows the selection in the 3d graph.

Monitor window lets you map trace any of the logged sensors/values.

Gauge window lets you display all of the values. These are displayed in real time while driving no logging needed, but they are logged for later review too.

Now you can also save and export the logs to a CSV file. Once you export it to a CSV, you can then input it into software like Virtual Dyno and get an estimated dyno number. This wont replace a real dyno, but will give you good side by side comparison of your tune changes.

Conclusion
If you are looking for all in one affordable tuning solution for your OBD1 car, this is the closest you will get to a standalone ecu.

Apparently there is a glitch with the photo album hosted on the forum, thus images wouldn't show up (making for a boring review!). Hosted the images offsite available now to view by everyone.

Awesome Vadim!! Just waiting on my last link to get back into the ECU things. Until then, Oktoberfest it is

Here is a quick video I put together of the install

P.S. OBD-2 guys, this applies to you too!! The video explains how I got this to work on a OBD2 setup (mind you, I also repinned the ecu as it is a 98 SE-R. But for the earlier OBD-2 guys (95/96), the step down harness should be plug and play)

(Thanks Vadim)

Thanks for the quick video!

Just wanted to point one thing out though. I am not directly affiliated with NepTune. While, I am a NepTune dealer and help with some of the development, we are two completely different products/companies.
