Bryan, 2.5" and call it a day!

People with CAI's would absolutely love it. The only reason 3" is working out for me is because my new MAF is 3" otherwise I would be rocking a 2.5" too .

I would not go so far as to say its got a velocity stack built in, but with the filter media at the top you have a more favorable flow path, particularly for your typical filter on tubing intake systems.

Actually the inside of the filter has a cone that reaches goes almost to the beginning of the filter.

Yesterday I was busy with my tie rods, but I'll try to snap a pick tonight .

2.5 inch X ?
Bryan there IS a very important aspect regarding the diameter aspect of the new design and it relates simply to space. May of us using true CAI are limited by not the overall length of the filter so much but by it's outside diameter. I currently have a AEM system on my B-13 and I like it alot. For non-cammed cars their2.5 diameters produce the best overall performance. But I'm limited to using only their filters, as I couldn't fit you're current unit inside my fender. The AEM comes in 5 inch diameter ,closed end and has a flow stack incorporated into the end. 5 inch is 2.5 by 5 inch is probably going to accommodate the most applications

The thing is if you make it any smaller then 6" then you have to worry about more unique filters, and it probably wouldn't flow as smoothly either.

I fit the whole stack into my fender well on my B14, the only reason it would sit too low is because of the 3" to 2.5" coupler and because I should have cut shortened the pipe haha .

Other then that I love 6", it's hard for me to find a space for it, but it's well worth the trouble.

fitment
I hear you Vadim, but ther's no room inside my b-13 fender for the 6 incher...wish there were I've got ample room length wise..my current filter is probably 6 0r 7 inches in length...I'd really like to us an open end filter like in the days when I had a WAI pop charger, but as it is now without a smaller overall diameter, I'm stuck with what AEM has to offer...And as far as I can tell they are the only filters I've found in 2.5 that incorporate the flow stack

If I wanted a cold air intake I'd move the battery to the trunk, put the filter element where the battery is, build a sealed compartment around the filter using the hood as the top and the strut tower as the back. I'd then open up the passage to the lower fender entirely.

I could fit what ever filter I felt like, run what ever sized pipe I felt like, avoid sucking up water from deep puddles, etc.

But that's just me.

Ben I completely agree with your method, it should technically yield the best results too. It's the same reason WAI's can even keep up with CAI's, shorter pipes etc.

I just ordered my flow stack! And as soon as I can sell some more parts, the filter will be on it's way as well.

Thanks again for the convincing info Vadim.

You're right, the flow stack itself convinced me. You just happened to be the venue in which the flow stack appealed to me.
