The fact that it sold in such low numbers will only make it rarer in 15 years and help raise the value of the car. Maybe in 30 years I will see NX's auctioned off on Barret-Jackson? Not mine, because I plan on keeping the car and passing it to my children after I pass away, but maybe someone who is hiding away a few of these machines will put one up. The pocket rocket 4 bangers are the new collectors car, already look at the Corolla GT-S, older Supras, Z cars, RX-7's, and Civics. Their prices are rising. I'm going to take care of my car, and keep it healthy(and garaged) for as long as I live. Right now I am in search of a DD so I can give my NX a break from his duties. Right now the car is worth 2 grand, and I love it. I want to make it a fun car and dump thousands into it( I'm prepping for a complete overhaul). After I'm done it will only be worth 2 grand, but it will be refreshed and ready to run another 15 or more years.
To everyone out there just getting involved in the NX or who are searching for a new used NX hear this. The NX is Nissan's ugly duckling, but it is going to grow to be one of a kind, you watch and see. I pray that you take care of these cars and treat them well, and they will take care of you. My life was saved by my NX back in 2003. On a dark night while the roads were icy, I was making my way home from a bible study get-together the next town over. There was no moon and I was driving down an unlit rural backwoods road lined both sides with trees. As I came around a tight bend whose view was obstructed by low hanging branches, I quickly spotted several deer just chillin' in the street. I slam my brakes, and engage the horn, the deer didnt move. I was going to hit them. When the deer hit my car he rolled up onto my hood and obstructed most of my view. I tried to the best of my memory to follow the curve of this tight turn while still on the brake. I ended up off the right side of the road(outside of the curve) and went head on into a tree. On impact everything was slow motion and I could see the windshield getting closer. The deployment of the airbag along with the restraint of my seatbelts saved me from hitting: a. the windshield b. the steering wheel or c. both windshield and steering wheel. I got out of my car very shaken up, I was doing about 35 when I hit the tree, but only had a small burn on my face from the bag. I got on the phone and reported it all. My parents ended up bringing me home only after I spoke with the cops and the ambulance workers. That day my car saved my life, and I've been thankful ever since for Nissan building that safety system in that car. In the days following I began my search for a new NX, because my previous had done me so well. Sadly not everyone has been this lucky on that road. Just recently a 17 year old male and his 12 year old sister died in a similar situation involving deer and trees.
My NX is a hobby in itself. I spends hours online scouring for any information on the NX in its many international forms. I am actually in the process of removing my USDM bodykit and replacing it with the EDM sport kit from Nissan. I take pictures, print documents, and read, read, read. I am even lucky enough to have acquired the following magazines:
-Road and Track, Feb. 1991 (NX v. CRX v. GTI)
-Motor Trend, May 1991 (10 Best Handling Cars in the World[NX placed 8th])
-Motor Trend, January 1993 (NX Long Term Wrap-up)
If anyone might possibly have a copy of the Aug. 1998 Turbo Magazine that they could sell me, I'd be very grateful.
Throughout the years I have encouraged others around me to get themselves an NX. Nobody ever took the bait, maybe they tried to find one but gave up on it out of sheer stress of not being able to find any for sale. However, my younger brother was one person I never pushed to get an NX. I think him seeing my car in the driveway, and the occasional ride to the parts store convinced him, because when he turned 16 he refused any car but an NX2000. He eventually found one and got himself an NX Thanksgiving Day 2004. He is a college student so he doesnt have the money to pour into his car, but I know he loves it with a passion, and when the car needs help he scrounges and keeps it healthy. Sometimes I offer him some assistance too, because I wouldnt want to see his car in disarray anymore than I would mine.
What I'm doing here is just trying to express to you that these cars may not be very valuable, but for many they carry a sentimental value. Throughout the years cars will come and go, but my NX will always have its spot in my garage and in my heart. I love my NX. I bet that there are people out there right now who can relate to how I feel. That is afterall, why we are here on this board. I have found a second home here with all you other NX nuts and we need to work together on keeping our cars well and running long into the future.
Thank you for hearing me out,
Chris Charette
