Got an Email back! Here is the response:
So, Tauriq, my book costs more to ship than to buy, eh? Sic transit gloria—so goes glory—as they said in ancient Rome. Well, those few leftover author’s copies I have aren’t probably going to be enough to fund my retirement. :-/
That said, the numbers came from a “fact book” that Automotive News, the biggest automotive trade publication in the country, used to publish every year. They were still doing it when I wrote the book. Alas, with the cost of paper… Anyway, that was my source.
NOW, in exchange for this nugget of information, I want you and all your friends to go to CarBuzzard.com and subscribe for a weekly update of articles published on the site. It’s normally free, but for members of the forum I’ll let you have it for half off. You don’t get a deal like that every day.
Thanks for your interest in the book. And yeah, tell your friends about CarBuzzard as well.

So its looking like we have a source for the source. Im gonna go with these numbers are legit comparing them to the numbers for the SE-R also which was way more popular then our cars and still there werent many produced! Im sure more 93 NX2000's were produced
world wide. But those numbers seem to confirm that the 93 NX2000 is VERY rare! Not really a rumor anymore
That means there are:
3337 '91's
5446 '92's
293 '93's!
.....I will also say Mr. Matras has written a good amount of cool articles/books and there is one in particular called top 100 cars you should drive (or something close to that name) thats a pretty cool read! Anyway good luck finding the 93's guys
!! Mine will be sleeping in the garage and not driven in salt for as long as possible!
Check out Carbuzzard.com also!
