USDM vs EDM Nissan NX2000/NX1600/100NX GTI
I thought I'd write up a list of things that differ between the USDM and EDM NXs
Headlamps
- USDM has separate section for parking light in headlamp unit / EDM has parking/citylight integrated in main headlamp unit, resulting in better output on the EDM headlamp
USDM:
EDM:
- Some EDM models (mainly German-spec NXs) came with electronically adjustible height control (mandatory in Germany), if you carried a big load, or pulled a trailer, you can lower the beam electronically to avoid blinding incoming traffic.
- Very rarely, the EDM NX came with headlamp wipers. However, it is neigh impossible to get a complete set, as there's usually something missing, like the special washerfluid reservoir that comes with the car.
Interior
- USDM NXs have an open glove pocket under the HVAC controls, while the EDM ones have one with a lid. Also, the USDM NXs have cupholders.
- USDM NXs have a smaller glovebox than the EDM ones, but have a section where you can put cups (I saw this in an imported NX1600).
- USDM NXs have an airbag, EDM NXs don't.
USDM interior (note the smaller glovebox):
EDM:
- Some NXs from Scandinavia had integrated seat heaters, but these are VERY rare.
- EDM NXs with electronically adjustable headlamps or seat heaters have a special hand-brake console, allowing for switches to be installed
- EDM NXs have a variable intermittent windscreenwiper switch on ALL models, something only a few USDM NXs had, I think.
- The EDM Sail version of the NX has a blue interior.
Taillamps
- EDM NXs have a slightly different layout when it comes to the taillamps. They only have 1 brakelight each, as opposed to the USDM ones, which have 2.
- EDM NXs have rear foglamps, on the LHS on mainland NXs, on the RHS on British NXs. Combining the two would result in double foglamps in the rear.
Engine
- The USDM GA16DE has a different intake/head, and makes about 12 hp more power because of it
- The EDM 1.6 NXs had 2 different engines, a carburetted 1.6 up to 1992, a fuel-injected 1.6 from 1993 till 1996
- Some EDM NXs (mostly SR20DEs) didn't have any emission-control systems, like EGR or O2 sensors (mine is a perfect example). The intake is the same as the JDM one.
Exterior
- USDM NX has sidemarkers, the EDM NX has not.
- USDM NX has antenna built onto the fender, the EDM NX into the A-pillar
- There was an optional roof rack, both for the T-roof as for the hard-top, for the EDM NXs.
- The EDM NX came stock with a small spoiler on the driversside wiper arm, to aid in wiping during higher speeds while in rain
Now here is where it gets interesting. Besides the stock front airdam/lip and the skirts on the NX2000 / 100NX GTI, Nissan Europe approved of 2 other "official" bodykits.
They were made by the companies "Pfeba" and "MS Designs"
The Pfeba ones are also known as the "Sport kit", the MS Designs just as that.
Both were made from PUR, as opposed to fiberglass like other aftermarket bodykits
The Pfeba/Sport kit comprised of the following parts:
Front bumpercover (eliminates stock NX2000/100NX GTI foglamps though, but allowes for more room for an intercooler when compared to the stock lip)
Rear bumpercover (can be used on an USDM rear bumper, you'll need to cut away a part of the old bumper though, as EDM licenseplates are wider)
3 piece sideskirts
Roof spoiler
Hatch spoiler (of similar design as the stock GTI/NX2000 spoiler, but PUR and a sharper edge).
The MS Designs kit comprised of the following parts:
Front bumperlip (allows for stock foglamps), with optional foglamp-delete-inserts
Rear bumperlip (EDM bumper required)
1 piece sideskirts
"3 prong" hatch spoiler
However, as years pass these parts are beginning to get very rare (esp. the Pfeba skirts/hatch spoiler and MS Designs kits), or are damaged/cut up for intercoolers.
This is as far as I know the complete list of differences between EDM and USDM NXs.
EDIT: If you guys want pics or something, I'll see if I can add them.
