yeah properly making AND sealing the window was the hardest part.

Making the hatch is easy and cheap-the mold was the expensive part.

Dont fall for these fancy names....most of these operations are just 2 or 3 guys and they sub all the labor out to larger composites outfits in the OC/LA area and then just hike the price to match what VIS or other large names are charging. Unless you have someone to oversee the quality, i would be very careful.

As far as the hatch itself, it costs them less than $200 to make one, so dont fall for their crap.

Personally, I wouldnt put glass on the composite/fiberglass hatch... enter at your own risk...

Did you ever measure the weight of the glass vs the lexan?

Id imagine if it was possible to install the lexan in a real hatch it would be a decent weight saving

You can put polycarbonate on a factory hatch. It will reuire riveting and window weld and ...oh yeah a properly made polycarbonate window piece

Never got exact #s but you can make a pretty good guess if you approximate the square area of the factory window and then factor in density of automotive glass vs polycarb

VIS Racing made that.... I ran that GB as well, but it wasnt through these guys at all. Im sure someone could copy it though...they can make anything.... just find a donor, pay for the tooling and an initial production of 10-15 parts and youre set lol have fun

I'm still sitting on that left-over lexan from the GB. I actually have been meaning to ask you about purchasing the molds used to do it, but it looks like someone beat me to it.

From the research I did, the stock glass is about 45lbs and the lexan is about 5lbs.

Yeah, your weight assessment seems about right..IIRC I had 44 and 5....close enough!

The molds was kind of a screwed up deal. I would've fought more to keep those, but I didn't have the space, time or money and was just glad I was able to recover what I put into the deal after so long. Not to mention since the people I dealt with were going in and out of business, changing fabricators, shops and storage locations, it just really wasn't worth it...cost/time to benefit ratio was shit for me
