wierd noise from ????
ok guys i been dealing with this noise for a while and its driving me nuts.. the sound sounds like a wheel bearing going out. . . kind of like a bent rim hitting that bent spot on the road or like somebody just smacking the bottom of your car and it gets faster as you go faster.. like a duh duh duh duh duh sound...

things i have done.. i changed the wheel bearing on the driver side because i know the sound is comming from the driver side... i changed the ball join on the passenger side just cause it needed to be changed.. i checked the control arm bushings, the tie rod ends and there all solid on both sides i also balance the tires to just to make sure... i also rotated the tires to see if the noise would transfer to another side...

to try and eliminate some factors i put the car on the lift so the tires could hang... so if im right there should be no pressure on anything.. i could still hear the noise. my stearing wheel does shake. just a little.. not violently like if my wheels were not balance. and the shaking went with the beat of the noise.. i could lay my hand on the wheel and it would stop without me putting pressure.. now if im correct the only things that are moving are the axle the bearing and the rotor. since i change my rotors and pads 30 minutes after i did my bearing and it was making the noise before i changed anything so im rulling that out..

so what do you guys think.. could it be the driver side axle?? the axle i had in my car had a broke boot for a while. so i changed it from a axle that was laying around the shop. A member had left it after he changed his. he claimed that his pasenger side was jacked up and was making his car vibrate. well he changed both of them at the same time and his vibration went away. so there is on telling if it was the passenger or driver.. I think it was making the noise with my old axle to !!! so both my driver side axle and his driver side axles could have been bad but i dunno...and here is the kicker.. when i go in reverse i dont hear it!!!! im going to try again in reverse and see if it was my mind play tricks on me..

any suggestions would be great cause im going to have an entire new suspension trying to find this sound out....

check the thin metal that surrounds your brake rotors and check the bolts that hold the half shaft together one might be missing???

naw i know its not the stupid shield. i done breaks on a few nissans and i know about the dust shield.. and its the driver side axle. it does not have the 3 bolts like the passenger side does... plus its not a scraping sound like metal to metal contact..

Its definitely possible. Axles can make all kinds of weird noises, alot of moving parts in there. Check and see how much play you have in both joints on the axle by moving the axle by hand. Since you have a lift, you could also have someone in the car with it in gear while you're under it. Stick a long, thick screwdriver from your ear to the transmission, steering knuckle, and diff. case. You should be able to hear it clearer using the screwdriver. Also, make sure there isn't anything rubbing on your inner wheel... like wheel weights hitting the caliper.

I told you 2 weeks ago to change the axle and you still didn't do it yet.

I've had an axle give me similar noises in the past. Either bad inner CVJ's or the axle is actually bent. A new one cured it.
