If they are squealing, I think he may need to burnish them again. When I daily drive with them, about 36 miles a day in mixed highway and snail 1/4 mile to each stupid damn stop light crap, they last about two weeks after a proper burnishing and begin to squeal at times.

Bobcats are some expensive pads and I cannot be any happier with the Hawk Pads. Sometimes I kind of wish I stayed with the stock B14 calipers and just got new rotors and pads, upgraded the brake lines to SS ones and flushed the braking system. I am not saying I am not happy with my NX calipers, but I think that for my daily driving, my stockers could have worked well with the appropriate pads and some fresh rotors. Oh well, live and learn.

Yeah neither does he, or I for that matter. If they squeal a little but stop on a dime then theyre fine in my book. I joke with him everytime he comes to a stop when Im in the car with him and they squeal. Like "Man you need to get your brakes checked or somethin..."

A friend of mine showed me that you can stop the peeping by not using peep plates!

Remove all rust and dirt of the brake pad brackets, put some cupper grease and make sure the pads can move freely (really a few mm without the plates) and it shouldn't peep anymore.

So, I'm seeing (by thread necromancy) if anyone knows a good brake pad for the rear of the NX. Does anyone know of a good pad to put back there, or any cross references from a different vehicle?

Up front I've got Hawk Blue pads, and those hold up to the racing just fine. The HPS I started with disintegrated after 2 qualifying and a sprint race. It's all I could get on short notice at the time. Anyway, I think I saw in a different thread, that if looking for front pads for the NX, the 1991-1994 Eclipse GSX Turbo 2WD (NOT AWD!) is nearly identical and fits in our front AD22VF calipers wonderfully.

Now I just need an answer for the rear pads. Stock stuff is obliterated by hard track driving. Gotta fix that...

Well, on what I wrote on not using peep plates, my friend agreed the peeping stopped. Now the pads move around audible in the car so he will reinstall them. (The dirt and rust that had to be removed right there was showing on the floor).

And damnit, the last miles driving my wheel bearing busted car to the garage, it developed a peep with braking out of nowhere.

stupid pads.

.

Sure do, might have seen a few threads around here with that information. A slight modification to the ears and they work.

The HPS pads are not track pads. You're probably thinking of the HP+ pads. They will dust heavy and squeal a little before they get bedded in. They're okay for light track use and autox. They have great intial bite but the dust sucks if you have nice wheels.

Actually, when you go with something of higher friction in the front you need LESS friction in the rear to keep the bias in balance. I wouldn't sweat the rears unless you messing with the bias using an frankenstein'd proportioning valve and need more bite in the rear.

You are correct that I don't want to sweat the rears at all, however, the cheap-ass $12 chinese rotors hold up alright, but the pads didn't. They have heat stress fractures all over and fall apart like a hollywood marriage.

I am going to try carbotech brakes for front and rear-- specifically the Carbotech XP10 up front, and the XP8 in the rear. I see they have fitment for front and rear. Carbotech Performance Brakes: Products-Nissan Brake Pads & Shoes . Hell, they even got the 549 vs 509 right.

I got ceramic pads from rockauto made by centric. They are petty good. More grabby than stock, and almost no dust. I've put them through some pretty hard breaking, with no issues. I upgraded to the max rears. Locked up all 4 the other day on a test run after cleaning, greasing, and rebleeding all calipers.
